Currently only play JoB and am looking to learn a new game. Can anyone help me decide which to play? I am stuck deciding between DDB or DW (or should I learn another one?) I am not a hardcore player at all, just casually play whenever I run across a casino.

Welcome to the forums tedmohello.
I'd vote DW. After that the bonus games.

Playing it correctly means you've already won.

Depends on the quality of the games near you. Very few places offer full pay Deuces Wild so learning a game you won't play is a waste of time. Scout out where you will play, find the best paytables and then learn the best game you are comfortable with.

why did you start with JoB and why do you want to learn a new game?Quote: tedmohelloCurrently only play JoB and am looking to learn a new game.
most all here will just give you their opinions.Quote: tedmohelloCan anyone help me decide which to play?
you need to start with what makes you have fun playing VP, why you play VP,
and then why really do you want to learn a new game?

you "just casually play whenever I run across a casino" for fun, to win money, to lose less money, to hit Royal flushes every session?
I may suggest you to try to be more specific
you can not be the only one with those feelings and thoughts
good luck

I think the best answer you've gotten is to look at what paytables are available to you. Then learn that game.
I highly recommend videopoker.com at the Gold level, at $9.99/month. They use the actual machines, and Gold both gets rid of ads and gives full access to nearly every VP on the market. Most importantly, that level includes a VP trainer by machine, that teaches you the best plays each hand.
Personally, I really enjoy DW, and would learn that one next. Next favorite is DDB. You might also consider Bonus Poker, because it's similar to JOB, so you can learn it quickly, but you get some 4OAK bonuses, which makes it more fun. Again, a lot depends on available paytables.

If the House lost every hand, they wouldn't deal the game.

I agree mainly because DDB is easy after knowing JOB. Tackle the harder stuff first, or you may never learn. I personally have no real need, so just reference DW if vulturing UX.Quote: RomesWelcome to the forums tedmohello.

Does optimal strategy change for DW depending on pay tables?

Yes. Absolutely.
Depending on the ratio between straight, flush, and full house payouts the strategy changes.

Yes, very much so. The only two that have basically no differences are 15/9 vs 16/10 paytables. FPDW is difference because it pays 5-for-1 on 4oak. Deuces bonus is different than the others, but kinda similar to FPDW (although TBH, I'm not strong on FPDW or bonus deuces strategies). And there are some gaffed paytables like 16/13 or 12/10 and I have no idea how to play those.
IMO just learn the strategy for 15/9 or 16/10 (they're essentially the same thing), aka airport deuces and NSUD respectively.
But for realz, if you're a recreational player, just play and learn whichever game is most appealing to you. Some like all the fancy pays, some can't stand them, others want something in the middle. For me, I hate deuces wild because it's just a horribly boring game IMO.

Short answer is yes. Longer answer is there are many varieties of the game. Full pay DW is rare and is played differently from the more common version known as Not So Ugly Dueces, which is played differently than the more common versions.
Most common change is what you do when dealt two pair.

And four to a Flush vs. a pair. If flush is 15, hold the flush draw, if it's 10, hold the pair.
Deuces and DDB would be the next games I would learn. Bonus is almost the same as JoB already.

If you learn JoB, BP, DB, DDB, etc will all be easier to remember. I would stick to learning paytables that you see often. No point in learning 10/7 DB if you live outside of Vegas.
Deuces are Wild is the best game of all time dont @ me. Recently I've been playing a lot of airport deuces. Learn that, don't bother with FPDW unless you wanna grind out $9/hr or something. I would learn Jokers last since if you play at a place that has it, chances are there are other games that have better payback and it's so technical just for one "type" of video poker.
