Quote: avargovI was driving by the South Point todayand on their video board was an interesting promo. It appears that you can earn free slot play for hitting a royal. I dont remember all the values but went fron $5 to $1000 depending on the demonination of the machine. Also, the values double if the royal is natural (dealt). How much does this help the EV?
The two combined bonuses add about 0.3% to the EV.
Quote: avargovThen would.I be wrong in thinking that I should take my VP bankroll there, at least while the promo is going on? Seem like EV would be over 100% with players card.
That depends. First of all, the best game you can find there is 99.73% NSUD. The slot club pays 0.3%. The bonus is worth another 0.3%. So you're chugging along at just over 100.3%; on the rare double point days (like today), the points arw worth 0.6%, so now you're at 100.6% (but you'll be fighting the crowds).
The thing is, there are better plays in Vegas just as they stand. You can play FPDW at most Station casinos, and while you earn virtually no points or other benefits, the game itself is 100.7%. The Palms has progressive .25 FPDW AND a .25% slot club--nudging you over 101% (and there are people who LIVE there on those machines as a result, though you can usually find an open seat). There are other FPDW machines in town (check VpFree2). Also, promotions with more value than the South Point one can boost you well into positive territory.
Another consideration, particularly if you are a local, is "bounceback", or mailers. Some casinos offer quite a bit; others, next to nothing. Another BIG "catch" is if a casino sees that you ONLY play on multiple point/peromotion days, they may cut you off from mailers, and in many cases, will bar you from playing altogether.
So in terms of the South Point play: good; on double points days: better; mailers: good, but paranoia: bad; promos: decent. It's not that bad of a play overall, though, especially since Vegas video poker has pretty much gone down the drain in recent years. Oh, and if you do go to the South Point, be sure to eat at the prime rib restaurant. The prices on the menu will make you think the food must be mediocre--but it's terrific.
Quote: teddysThey've actually cleaned it up a bit, not sure when the last time you were there was. You might just need a waist-length condom now.
It was a couple of years ago. The carpet, the walls, and the dealers were peeling. If it's been cleaned up a bit, that would be welcome. Heck, if it was merely disinfected and deloused, that would be an improvement. Did they finally remove all the corpses of the dead penny slot players?
It's pretty nice. I would the El Cortez is a good quality comparable. They have $2 Ultimate Texas Hold 'Em and $3 craps with 3x4x5x. The video poker is very decent, too, although they've downgraded recently.Quote: mkl654321It was a couple of years ago. The carpet, the walls, and the dealers were peeling. The Wild West is the only casino that caters to truck drivers that I know of. Plus it has easy freeway on/off access. The closest casino with full pay jacks at $0.25 to there is I believe the Orleans about a mile west down Trop. Fun place to play. You could also try hoofing or cabbing up to the Palms, which has FPDW. I'm trying to remember if the Gold Coast has truck parking in the back off Valley View, but I don't think so. They always seem to have a lot of space back there, though. Maybe Palace Station, too.Quote: avargovteddys, thanks for the tips. Yes, I. do drive a semi, from socal to slc and back. Yes, I have tried the Silverton, wasn't impressed. Generally I park at the wonderful Wild Wild West and either take a cab or hoof it. I am always looking for other parking places (perhaps the Wiz would let me use his driveway). Btw, my VP budget is around $1100 right now, so I try to find $0.25 FPJB or FPDW. Should I be looking at a different denomination for my bankroll? thanks for all of your help guys....alan
There's also always Mesquite -- the Casablanca has surprisingly good VP, and the Eureka has $0.25 FPDW, if you don't mind the ambiance.
$1100 is right on the cusp for the kind of bankroll you need for FPDW. You are still gambling -- maybe a 30% risk of ruin. I would want at least twice that. For Jacks, you should have 5K.
Edit: I've been informed that the Orleans has truck parking. You could also try the $.05 FPDW at Boulder Station, Sams Town, and I believe Fiesta Henderson has that as well.

The Fiesta Henderson has truck parking, I believe, along with .25 FPDW.
Your bankroll is too small for sustainability, but you're correct to choose .25 FPDW or FPJW, because any lower-denom game is going to have awful paytables.
Edit: I'm also rooting for the boys in blue.
only one thing to say.....HOORAH!
