and if your hand has both a 7 and T (unsuited), then which to hold?

It's been over two years since I regularly played a JW game. It's so different from other games, I remember it being difficult to figure out the correct play and I had to really be fine-tuned to work on practice software without the error messages popping up frequently. However, one thing I remember that may help you is to try to judge which card, the 7 or T, has more "elbow room" in relation to the penalty cards. If I remember, JW-2 Pair was even more difficult.

https://wizardofodds.com/games/video-poker/hand-analyzer/ says the T. Makes sense because the T has all the same opportunities as the 7 plus it sets up for a wild royal flush.

thx. that makes sense.
I wonder why the strat maker put both w7 and wT on the same line?

The W7 is better than WT in a hand like WTs7cQh3d, because the 7 has more "elbow room".
The fine points of the game can be a real bitch.

If you are using the Wizard's strat maker it uses a general algorithm which will end up ordering and grouping non conflicting plays, which might look weird but are none the less valid.

yes that is correct. i didn't mean to generalize. I just put in 2 filler cards to answer the question, which in hindsight is a bad idea considering how many exceptions there are for pairs made with a Wild against the general strategy.

what pay table are you using ? The default (1.006463 return). They aren't on the same line. See: https://wizardofodds.com/games/video-poker/strategy/a-1-b-79-c-1-d-0-d-1-d-1-d-2-d-3-d-5-d-7-d-20-d-50-d-100-d-200-d-800/

Ok, so in that case you would just pick one and then make sure your 5 cards are not in any of exceptions. If there is an exception you could end up playing the other card with the wild or even something else with the wild like a 5 or 6 for example instead.

It did on Tuesdays when the Hacienda gave 4X points and they still had a couple machines that paid 4700 for the royal and they had a card-of-the-day and you could get a comped buffet after playing through $500 coin-in. Ah, those were the days. Dotty's can kiss my ass.
