I'm reading Million Dollar Video poker by Dancer.

In it, he speaks of Serial vs. Parallel - referring to how the cards are dealt on a VP machine.

The last book I read (1997 or so) stated that the cards were dealt in parallel. Dancer says that's changed.

So - here's my question:

When you are playing quickly and you *thought* you pressed hold - and it didn't hold the card, costing you money - is there really an option to get a slot tech to show the previous undrawn hand (to illustrate that the machine's buttons aren't working as intended - sticky or you just didn't press it squarely) and ask for credit?

I've complained about a sticky button before recently and got an apology and a slot tech to work on the machine - but no credits. (I never thought to ask, figured they'd laugh me out of the place. It was only $5 bucks.

No, there is not.

You would never be able to tell what you would have had because the timing is at the millisecond level.

They can go back and show what the initial 5 dealt cards were. I have had this happen 3 times when the button didn't hold, and the casino gave me the amount of my bet back. I was a well known customer.
Happy days are here again

Because there is another way to hold cards...ie: tapping the screen, I think you would be very lucky to get any $$ back. I'm surprised Hunterhill has had the luck he's had.. known customer or not.

I think many casinos do exactly what he described. I have successfully been paid for a 4k when a card didn't hold.

I realize this is not the best way to think of things - but I hate tapping the screen. Not sure why - it just seems to take me out of rhythm. Instead of 600 hands per hour, it would be more like 400 - at least until I got used to it.

I'm sure the problem isn't that prevalent in Vegas, but here on the Gulf Coast, the better pay tables see the most use - and when they're at the bar, spilled beer and ketchup and the like make for some sticky buttons. Sometimes it's literally sticky, and sometimes it's the internal switch under the button. Either way, they can be problematic to use.

When you're done, please read my Article and let me know what your thoughts were on it in the comments! I always enjoy having the opportunity to discuss a book with someone else who has recently read it.

No discussion of resistors or capacitors? A disappointing thread.
