Why the distinction between possible straight flushes? Either way there's a gap in between the cards if it's 5/7 or 3/5, either way a card can be pulled either below or over the low one...not sure why one combination would be weighted any differently than the other.

Hmm. I tried it by hand and I have a feeling I'm missing combos. I'll check the hand analyzer on VPW though, I see where you're going with this.
Quote: scubatim84So I've been playing JoB for awhile, and I'm starting to learn the DW44 variant of DW now, and for whatever reason perfect play according to VPW seems to have an intense hatred of 3-to-a-straight-flush if the potential straight flush cards are lower than 6. For example, if I pull 2 unsuited cards, a deuce, a 7 of spades and a 9 of spades, VPW always wants me to hold the 7/9 of spades and the deuce to try for a straight flush even if there's a gap in between the cards. However, I've noticed if say it's instead 2 unsuited cards, a deuce, a 3 of spades and a 5 of spades, it always wants me to hold the deuce and burn the rest. Only time this seems to be different is if its say a 3 of spades and a 4 of spades so there's no gap in between the cards.

If the deuce is REQUIRED to make a SF it's ranked lower then a hand that isn't.
For example:
A345c would require a deuce, therefore you only have 4 outs to a SF, whereas a 6789c would give you 6 outs (4 deuces and the 5 or T of clubs)
Or if it's a 1 gapper then the deuce can fill the middle, or use it to make the low or high end such as 78WTc (W can be used as 9c, 6c, or Jc)

Perfect, simple explanation I can easily remember, thanks! Wasn't finding it in VPW. :)
