As an aside, funny story - I was bonus vulturing a few days ago. Guy at the next machine was watching me cycle through the games. He then asked, "you looking for bonuses?" When I said yes, I was expecting some rude remark, but instead, he said, "I left some on DDB 2 machines down, if you want play those." Mind boggling!
Been tough being a vulture of late, there are many big birds around.Quote: 21formeYes, thanks.

You give up a lot more than that unless you are only vulturing the game. At least a few percent minimum I would think.

wondering if anyone knows of a more definitive answer or estimate to the OP's question (I know it will vary some by game/paytable). Is there a way for someone with somewhat average math skills and zero software/computer programming skills to figure it out, or preferably plug an incorrect strategy into vp software to get the return? (I have VPFW , but if it was a book I'd have to dust it off.) I am not referring to vulturing strategy, asking about playing the game straight up with the strategy from the base game.Quote: 21formeFor example, if one uses 10/7 DB instead of 9/6/5 strategy?

You wouldn't be able to solve it without a custom program.
As for regular video poker...frugal video poker will determine your EV using the wrong strategy.
But by a quick glance, 10/7 DB strategy isn't too far off of 9/6/5 UX strategy except that 4 to an inside straight is MUCH stronger, so it easily beats a high card.
But I would just refer to the UX strategy though since it's available.

And you can get a good basic strategy with JBs calculator for any paytable with the advice laid out here:

I have noticed Frugal has errors, I didn't know why.Quote: tringlomaneYou wouldn't be able to solve it without a custom program.

Can you recall an example offhand? I have yet to notice one when I play around with it. But when they show the paybacks of some calculated games/strategies, they look slightly off, so this wouldn't shock me either.
