I always felt WMS was the lowest common denominator which drags everyone else down. Their biggest opportunity will be to redefine commons sense in VP since they have no history offering games. They will exploit what every other game has taken for granted and there will be lots of mistakes made because of it. No big surprise they went after this weakness. If you personify WMS, you have someone who hates you the gambler and will play the devil, if that is what it takes to get your money. They are the person you tell secrets, but know you shouldn't because you know they will betray you and tell everyone.
If this switch happens, it will not actually help the casinos because it will lower their overall denomination numbers and turn off the button slappers, whom they really want when VP skews the numbers. With different IGT games, you just need to learn different dialects, but WMS will make it different languages and different dialects. I just don't trust them. If you think you're going to be able to beat them beyond the cost of preparation, you're going to be wrong. There is usually nothing they have not thought of. In the slot world, there is usually rare an exploitable slot machine and non progressive usually rely on the "what if" selling the demand.

I guess being a newbie give me some leeway in asking a dumb question. What does WMS stand for? My acronym finder lists everything from "World Management System" to "Where's My Socks" but nothing that seems to apply to video poker. Thanks in advance.

I used to work for Atari Games coin-op, and we were owned by WMS at that time.
