The Mrs. got a free room at Cache Creek Casino on a Saturday night! Amazing! She upgraded to a patio room (which used to be no extra charge) for $30. But wait, there's more! She also got two free tickets to the Legends of Motown tribute show!
The show was pretty good. I mean, I probably couldn't tell the difference between tonight's performers and the actual Spinners if they were really there. Of course, the real Michael Jackson and Aretha Franklin were not there. Each "act" did two or three songs. People got on their feet when "Rick James" performed. Will the Mrs. and I in 20 years be seeing a tribute show for Madonna, Whitney Houston, and Kenny Loggins?
On the casino floor I observed $10 craps with cards, $15 Casino War, and $50 pai gow tiles. One pai gow tiles table was full, another closed, and a dealer was being trained on a third. I asked if I could listen in and they obliged. On one hand the new dealer rearranged 9-5, to the house way of 8-6. They go for balance, the trainer said. She also said the minimum never goes below $50. The trainee claimed the Stratosphere Casino in Vegas still has $15 pai gow tiles.
I played $5 Roll to Win craps and quickly lost $49 on two shooters by betting the pass line and placing the 6 and 8. So I switched to the Don't Pass and wound up betting my remaining $51 on a 10 point with odds and a Don't Come 4 with odds. Fortunately, the cold table streak continued and a 7-out came quickly.
On my turn to shoot, I quickly got a 5 point pass line winner. I got a place bet 6, then a 7-out.
I switched back to the Don't Pass and won on two 7-outs with odds to finally finish ahead $9. The last shooter rolled four 10s, four 8s, and two 6s, so it would have been better to do Come bets on his roll, but I still won my Don't Pass bets because he couldn't get his 4 point.
Afterward I joined the Mrs. at a quiet bar for some $0.25 8-5 JoB. I declared my desire to get a royal flush, but quit after I won $15. An Irish Coffee cost $8.
One thing nice about the Cache Creek hotel, in addition to big rooms, is that BEFORE you enter the elevator, you choose which floor you want. So much more efficient!

That place has really been upgraded from the first time I went there in 2004 when I turned 18. They used to let 18 year old people play, but after they got their booze license gaming went to 21.

I loved the early days of Cache Creek!
Would you happen to know about something that confused me in the early 2000s there: the poker players had HUGE chip stacks! Like $500 in $1 chips. What was up with that? It was as if they weren't allowed to buy-in again so they just started with huge stacks.
