Thanks
Will look all that up and probably check those out
I move every Wednesday
Even though it's a bit of a pain to move, it's my favorite day of the week now.
I just love moving to a new area. Go on TripAdvisor and google to see what's around and plan my days activities
I simply love exploring places I have never been before
Going to the same casinos playing the same games over and over. Pretty boring if you ask me
Moving to a new area is like a box of chocolates
You never know what you will find
I love museums.
If people think something is worth looking at, then I want to see it
This got to be one of the weirder museums
Museum of Osteology
In OKC
It blew my socks off
All skeletons, just about every animal you can think of
Whale, horse, dogs cats, bears.
All skeletons,
Fascinating.
They have ethics
The whale was dead and beached for example
A lot are road kill
Some were pets
When I stopped in, I found it absolutely charming that the life-sized golden horse statue out front had a missing member. The statue had been anatomically correct, and now it was not. Somebody had broken off the horse's member.
Interesting place.

I just took a look at those places
Virginia , Tahoe , Incline village . I'll definitely check those out in a few days
Goldfield and Scottys closer to Vegas
Will keep those in mind when I get back to Vegas
After Reno
I'm in the Elko area for a week. Anything out there?
I'm not expecting much but then I wasn't expecting much in El Centro and instead found Slab city

Hmm
I lived in Philly back in the day
Went to Drexel
But
Never heard of this museum
Have to check it out.
Kind of into different things at that age
Is it related to those crazy new years celebrations in Philly?
It's nice to see someone who's just chronicling his adventures without constant bravado.

Nah, those crazy drunk New Years parade dancers are the mummers.
It’s a medical oddity museum, but that description doesn’t do it justice. Search it on google or YouTube and you will see some cool stuff if you are into this type of thing.

I'll have to check it out.
I definitely like seeing anything out of the ordinary
Pretty much what my trip is about
Kind of reminds me of a museum I checked out in I think Oklahoma. The guy collected a lot of unusual including actual nooses. Next to the nooses were news articles of the actual hangings. Gruesome but definitely unique. I took pics but those didn't get a lot of likes on FB lol
The museum with the nooses I saw
J.M. Davis Arms and historical museum
Largest private gun collection on the planet
Claremore OK. Right on the Mother road, route 66
I'm anti gun but you never know
The gun collection was overwhelming
Soon your eyes just glaze over.
But
I was fascinated by the noose collection
I would read the accompanying news story
Sometimes more then a noose. Some he has the bag over the head
Very gruesome
I played at my favorite tribal casino recently and by the time I finally stopped playing their Big Wheel game I owned ALL of their chips.
The chief in charge of the tribe didn't like it: he sent some of his braves to grab me and tie me up.
I was covered in honey and strapped to an anthill.
Didn't bother me: my strong atheistic beliefs kept me focused.
I howled at the moon and barked at the sun.
When finally released the chief chopped off my middle fingers with a tomahawk but surprisingly he then offered me a coffee shop comp: I wanted to give him the middle finger but realized he already had it.
The clam chowder was excellent.
I told him in his natrive tribal tongue that he was the son of a dog and the spawn of a leprous whore: he then had me thrown off of a cliff into the Pacific Ocean where my doom was sealed.
That was my end; I have now returned as a ghost, a zephyr, to regale you walking dead with further glorified, magnified tales of my casino derring do.
Up next: my unending winning streak at baccarat and my rude comeuppance at the hands of a crackhead pimp ...

My friend, Al, loves that museum. Of course, Al also bought a collection of serial killer memorabilia. I have yet to see the museum. I've gotta put it on the list.
Also worth it IMO is driving up the McKenzie River and stopping for a dip at Cougar Hot Springs. If it's late enough in the year that Rt 242 is open over the McKenzie Pass, stopping at the summit on a moonless & cloudless night is a mind-blowing experience. Best night sky you will every see.
Quote: TumblingBonesIf you're heading to the Pacific NW I'm guessing you'll want to stop by the Eugene/Springfield area and pay homage to the memory of Ken Kesey and Dead concerts past. The Springfield Creamery, the Kesey family's business, is still there tho the name is now is Nancy's Creamery. Good yogurt as I recall. I also recommend the clam chowder from Mo's but I'm basing this on what they were serving 40 years ago. They have 3 restaurants, all on the coast. The one at Otter Rock has the best view.

Popped in to check out the other "adventure thread"
Somebody took a nap then a walk. Thats an adventure? Its a thread bump lol
my prediction for the next so called "adventure", play bac and win ROTFL
Talk about predictable.
If you play and know you will win, that's not an adventure. A real adventure is to not know if you will win. To not know what lies ahead
1992. Yea I was having Real adventures back then
Dead were scheduled to play the same field as their 1972 benefit for the Creamery
Jerry got sick, shows canceled
I was an east coast deadhead
Had airline tickets
Went out there anyway to site see
They had a small replacement music festival.
I attended.
Kens bus was there selling his wares
Walked over and introduced myself.
Ken was great, was taken aback on how far I came
Told him I loved cuckoos nest
He signed a copy for me
One of only 2 books in my camper today, the other is deadbase
later i was watching some music
i notice Ken standing next to me
hes smoking a joint thats being passed around
he smiles that big Ken smile and hands me the joint
so yea, met Ken and got high with him.
Went back to Eugene 1993 and 1994 to see the grateful Dead but did not run into Ken those years
Been having REAL adventures my whole life
spent my early years following the Dead around the country having REAL adventures
now im retired and continuing my life long REAL adventures all across this great country

TX coach did a superb job in slowing down the game.
The loss sucks but overall it was a very fun season.
I not thrilled we got upset but thrilled that there have been quite a few other upsets on the Womens side. That's needed. To few programs dominating the sport.

I moved to Eugene in 1974 so I missed the 72 concert. First time I heard the Dead play was in 1973 at Watkins Glen. I went because I was a big fan of both the Allman Bros. and The Band. The Dead turned out to be a big unexpected treat.
After I moved to West Coast I hit Dead concerts up and down the Coast. Eventually I settled in Palo Alto. The best venue EVER to hear them was when they would play the Amphitheater at Stanford. From time to time they would show up with their individual bands to play at the Keystone, a local club. I was there one night, standing at the bar listening to Bob Weir's band when i realized the guy standing next to me was Bill Walton. That guy has to go down in the Guinness Book of Records as the Biggest Dead Head in history.
Quote: billryanI love exploring the West. It is just so open and much of its history still lives.
One of the saddest places I've come across is Catherdral Canyon, on the California/Nevada border, an hour northwest of Vegas.
An eccentric businessman who may or may not have had a very shady past back east built a shrine to World Peace and imported beautiful religious states and icons to establish a spectacular oasis well worth traveling to. After he died, his backstory fell apart and his estate was contested for decades. Without funding, the Canyon just disintegrated from nature, vandals, and thieves.
It's still worth visiting but little remains but the bases and grottos carved into the walls to shield the icons, and caves that once were functional restrooms.
The REAL adventures of terapined
Wow. That's interesting
Reminds me of Salvation Mountain
The guy spent his whole life building and painting his mountain. Its really beautiful. He eventually passed away.
Nearby residents were worried it would deteriorate
They organized, got non profit status, raised some money. It's now maintained so future generations can see this beautiful painted mountain.
Slab city may be ugly but nearby Salvation mountain is magnificent

Recommend a book for you.
Quote:
Tom Wolfe's much-discussed kaleidoscopic non-fiction novel chronicles the tale of novelist Ken Kesey and his band of Merry Pranksters. In the 1960s, Kesey led a group of psychedelic sympathizers around the country in a painted bus, presiding over LSD-induced "acid tests" all along the way. Long considered one of the greatest books about the history of the hippies, Wolfe's ability to research like a reporter and simultaneously evoke the hallucinogenic indulgence of the era ensures that this book, written in 1967, will live long in the counter-culture canon of American literature.

Yes.... the boroughs. That was Brooklyn, Queens, The Bronx, and Staten Island. But New Jersey near 'the city' was never a borough. It was always a 'suburb of New York City' Never once heard it referred to as a suburb of Manhattan. And never heard it referred to as a 'borough'. Because it is NOT a borough!

Wow, you lived in Eugene. Nice town. Its actually my favorite place to see the band. A lot of their friends live in the area so the band is in good spirits meaning we may get a hot show and Eugene got a lot of them.
My first show was 1978 Thanksgiving
I was home from college
Eating a afternoon Thanksgiving meal with the family
A friend calls me up
I got tickets to the Grateful Dead
I'm like, WTF, a concert on Thanksgiving
Told him yea. Even at that age, seemed an adventurous outgoing
So I went
Jerry played what is now one of my all time favorite songs, Terrapin Station
The rest is history as I saw the band over a hundred times
I was mostly an East coast deadhead but being hardcore, did see them on the west coast but never stanford
West coast saw them at Oakland coliseum, LA sports arena and Autzen
I actually flew out to Oakland not to see the Dead but to see the Jerry Garcia Band at the Kaiser Auditorium
Quote: SOOPOOI thought he was referring to Manhattan, Kansas!
I would be much more interested in Manhattan Kansas. That is a college town that I haven't visited.
Quote: TumblingBonesI moved to Eugene in 1974 so I missed the 72 concert. First time I heard the Dead play was in 1973 at Watkins Glen.
Only time I ever saw them was June 4th 1978 at UCSB. I got in free because my buddy was a local disc jockey. I remember we were on a hill looking down at the bandstand where they were playing. The music was wafting up the hill but nobody was paying attention to it. They were all stoned out of their minds, lots of the young girls were topless. I left after about an hour because it was just too boring. If you're not stoned yourself, being around a bunch of stoners is like being in the land of the brain-dead. I quit smoking weed in 1970 and never looked back.
