We have had a few different get-togethers in the history of this site. There have been a number of WoVCons as well as a couple of WoV East events. Naturally, any scheduled large get-together should still have its own dedicated thread.
The purpose of this thread is discussing where you will be and when you will be there if you would like to meet up with any other WoV Members. It can be in Vegas, or some other major gambling destination, but it doesn't have to be. If you're taking a trip to a casino and don't mind people knowing when you are going there, then mention it in this thread and perhaps find someone to meet up with.
For the most part, I only go to casinos for the purposes of AP, so I don't have anything to list right now. If I am ever going to a casino for other purposes (such as writing or reviews) I'll mention it here. It just seemed like a good thread to create.
Quote: Mission146I'm good with late September and any of those states except North Carolina. I might need to wait for my ex-wife's schedule if it is going to be late September, though, in order to commit to a specific day. Is Maryland not an option? I was thinking Lady Luck Nemacolin or Rocky Gap could both be very nice for a WoV East.
Lucky Lady both charges admission and is really small. Just saying for those who do not know. Though you can see 2 white tigers while you are there.

Good thread, way too busy to make plans but always open to a PA meeting. Seems most here are in Western PA but I could be available based on timing. Would love to hang, it doesn’t always have to be gambling AP, meeting, socializing and drinking with good people is another form of AP.

They charge, but you get a $10 gift card in exchange for the $10 to go in. I figured that we would be all eating together again, anyway, so that's probably what the gift cards would go towards. I guess there are some little restaurants out there, but I'm not familiar with any of them.
I guess the adamant non-smokers, if any, would like Rocky Gap. It's all non-smoking, execept for a very small smoking room with something like twenty slots. Any casino in Ohio, as well. Rivers is roughly half non-smoking, but the only self-serve beverage machine is in smoking. Rivers would also be way too loud for our event, in my opinion. I think Rocky Gap is kind of loud, too, for how small it is.
Lady Luck Nemacolin would likely be our best bet to get our own Craps table if everybody wanted to do that again. I think the minimums there are generally still $5 during non prime time, but I could call and ask. The casino is virtually AP proof unless you really like vulturing UX only on the nickels denomination, so I haven't been there in I think about a year. Maybe less than a year. I mainly just went to see if the vulturing situation had changed at all and it hadn't. You'd be surprised the value a handful of machines could give you if you have the place to yourself as a vulture.
We could get a $5 Craps Table at Wheeling Island, but the place is an absolute dump. It actually borders on embarrassing, at this point. If you would like to play any of their horrendous Video Poker paytables, the VP itself is only the second game; the first game is extreme slow-playing your first hand to figure out which buttons work and which ones don't. This is not an if. At least one button will not work if you are playing the bartops.
The buffet is hit or miss, but it misses much more than it hits. The steakhouse is almost never open and would be ridiculously overpriced even if it was open. The food court sucks and consists of only three places. I guess the burgers and pizza are okay. Either way, the group dinner would definitely be elsewhere. If someone suggests Figaretti's for dinner, then maybe I'll try to make a better case for the casino.
Mountaineer might be okay for the event. I forgot to check the Craps minimums last time I was there. It's probably slightly nicer than the Island now, which isn't saying very much. I don't know what the dining situation there is like exception to the buffet circa two years ago. It was okay then. I've been there a few times since then, but haven't eaten anything while there.
Any casino in Columbus will have more than a $5 minimum on Craps. Rivers often will, but sometimes not. I can't go into Meadows and it turns out they WILL actually prosecute me if I do. Keep it classy, guys. I'm glad the group won money overall from them on the Craps last time. Actually, the members of this forum combined are probably highly profitable at Meadows all things considered, now that I think about it...

On the serious side, I assume they are the same kind Sigfried and Roy had. Something like 6 known to exist and the have two of them, or so I am told 6. If you go and have a choice, see them at dusk when they roar. Other wild animals there as well, no charge to drive up and see them. Rest of the resort is flipping expensive.
They are not near the casino, you have to drive there. Section of the Berlin Wall there, too. And the weirdest monument a person made to themselves you have ever seen.
Quote: DeMangoAlways wonder when east coast meetings are discussed, why Biloxi, the best gambling east of the Mississippi is never mentioned?
That would be WoV South. We have a ton of members here all within about 200 miles of Pittsburgh.
Quote: DeMangoThanks for that. Has there been any Southern meetings?
I’m in for a Biloxi meeting. As long as we make a side trip to the Shed for lunch. And a 90 minute drive to the FloriBama for a non gaming fiesta.
Quote: DeMangoThanks for that. Has there been any Southern meetings?
I think it may have been discussed, but I don't know if it ever materialized. I wouldn't have paid much attention as I would not have had any intention to go to that one.

Quote: DeMangoThink the shed has a new location. Wasn’t it close to Treasure Bay?
Not sure, I’ve always been to the one off 90 in Ocean Springs. But won’t be surprised if they opened another location capitalizing on their success. Love Shaggys by Treasure Bay for bar food and brews.
Also a great brewery up in Gulfport called Chandeleur who makes good beers. Sadly 4 MS breweries have closed in the past year, including Biloxi Brewery due to the antiquated laws there.
But hopefully someone organizes a meetup. Hard to find a better place in the south than Biloxi.
Quote: DeMangoThink the shed has a new location. Wasn’t it close to Treasure Bay?
If you’re talking about the bbq place that’s been on tv etc (shedde bbq?) it’s northeast ocean springs, maybe even technically St. Martin. I haven’t been to Biloxi before last 4-5 years so wouldn’t be aware of a possible prior location. Biloxi maybe best place in US for value oriented modest stakes gamblers IMO, probably a toss up between there and Reno reno better vp paytables biloxi probably better comps.
Quote: Mission146I'd PM Wizard that question or maybe start a separate thread for that one. No question it would have to be in Vegas. Although, we could always have a Vegas one a South one and an East one all on the same day and Facetime each other, or something like that. Didn't the WWF do that for Wrestlemania once? Some of the matches at one venue and some at the other?
Wrestemania 2, was a failure. Long Island, Chicago and LA. Early days of PPV and Closed Circuit.
Noble effort but overall a letdown. I was in Nassau on Long Island, killed the crowd when the live matches were over.
But had the NFL Battle Royal in Chicago and Bundy vs Hogan in a cage in LA.
101.2 miles on a unicycle.Quote: BozAnd a 90 minute drive to the FloriBama for a non gaming fiesta.
We also had one in North Carolina at the time of the last eclipse.
I enjoyed both immensely.
Also met Terapined in Tampa.
Jim Rockford in Austin.
And of course a whole bunch of you guys in Vegas.
I even met a member (forgot name!) in Dublin, Ireland.
Post a meetup and I'll try and make it.
I’m attending again this year and will soon start a roll-call thread about it.
Because the dates line up, I’m going to also attend The Summit, for the first time. FYI. It was formerly called VIMFP - Vegas Internet Mafia Family Picnic.

I will probably be in AC sometime in the 12-17 of sep range (I will be back in town that week for a wedding) .

It's a 2 hr drive for me so I would definitely sign-up for an AC event.

There's a third game. Sometimes the bartops screen is so messed up, you can not tell what cards are dealt or what cards you end up with on the draw!

I was there recently, for a week long conference, the food was inedible! I am sure the hotel/restaurants was not expecting a couple of hundred guests driving towards Steubenville 3 times a day for something decent to eat.
Anyway, just my opinion and some recent data points. for what it's worth.
I hope this meet comes together somehow.

Haha I’m going to go with yes to both.
There have been multiple gatherings at the NC casinos, with the latest being the one that SooPoo mentioned, which was in conjunction with the eclipse last year. I think I posted photos of that one and at least one earlier gathering.
The last time I was at either Wheeling Island or Mountaineer was in May 2008, with quick stops at each to collect souvenir chips. We had attended the WVa Wine and Arts Festival at which a couple of my musician friends had performed and were on our way to a stop at Niagara Falls.
I also like the idea of a Biloxi gathering. A month or two ago we had tentative plans for a MS trip that would have included both Biloxi and Tunica, but those plans morphed into an 8-day chip-collecting trip that skipped Biloxi but included Tunica and extended to AR, MO, IA, IL, IN, MI, and Ontario before we headed home a week ago.
Attending a gathering in any of the PA casinos would require a bit of advance planning for us, I expect. Of course I would hope to combine such a trip with souvenir-collecting stops at several places once new chips are available: Rivers (Philadelphia), Stadium (Philadelphia), Stadium (Derry satellite), and/or Wind Creek (Bethlehem).

Got to thinking about this and wanted to bring the subject up once again. I asked my wife about a possible WoV gathering in Biloxi, and she is enthusiastic. Although she mostly is standing to the side or sitting somewhere reading her Nook, she has attended quite a few WoV gatherings in Las Vegas, one in Niagara Falls, two in Cherokee, and a couple of mini-gatherings (just two WoV members) in Biloxi and Tunica.
Yes, I/we would be quite interested in meeting some WoV folks for some fun in Biloxi. Usually we are reasonably open on timing, but next month would not likely work well for us -- we have about two weeks in the middle of the month blocked out for a trip including a 10-night cruise to the Caribbean. October, on the other hand, is still mostly open on our schedules. I think there are only four days all month that we have any commitments.
Is anyone interested in meeting in Biloxi some time in October? (We don't really require that you be from the South!) Can we make a group of it?
Yet, I underestimated that surveillance is aggressively tracking card counters. I don't see myself coming to the meetings.
Agree or disagree?
Quote: jjjooogggI like the idea of meeting people, if I had the time.

I think you're overly paranoid in reference to Biloxi. I could be wrong.
I think I could do a Biloxi meet. So tentative yes for October.
Quote: DocI'm a little slow picking up on this thread, but I guess I need to keep my eye on it. That is particularly true if there are plans for a WoV gathering in the South, though I would also consider a gathering in the NE provided it is at a time of year with near-zero chance of snow.

Just got approval for what I believe will be called live Pittsburgh
Quote: GWAEJust got approval for what I believe will be called live Pittsburgh
Well, I seem to be getting conflicting information. Have you ever encountered internet sites that disagree with each other regarding the facts? ;-)
This article, listed as "updated July 10, 2019", about the casino expected to open in Philadelphia next year, starts off by saying, "Stadium Casino, originally branded Live! Hotel and Casino Philadelphia, is a...."
The remainder of the article is worded to suggest that the revised name of the place will indeed be "Stadium Casino", abandoning the original Live! (which I think is usually put in italics in addition to including the exclamation point.) The article also said that the developers, Stadium Casino LLC, were the "successful bidders for a Category 4 casino – a so-called satellite or mini-casino" to be located in Derry, just east of Pittsburgh.
Now, based on the hint from GWAE, I have found this article, updated August 14, 2019, saying that the state "awarded a license to Stadium Casino LLC to build Live! Casino Pittsburgh, a new mini-casino at the mall in Hempfield Township." A casual attempt on Google Maps suggests that Hempfield Township is some 20 miles from Derry, though I am not familiar with that area. Guess their plans changed when they found an existing facility that they could move into.
So which article (both?) is correct about the name to be used for the new casino(s)? Did they abandon Live! and change to Stadium, or not?

If/when you're in the Philly or Bethlehem area I would be up for getting together.
I'll keep that in mind, TB, but I doubt it will happen before next summer. I'm much more likely to be able to handle a Biloxi gathering this fall, but the three people I quoted (previous page) as speaking favorably about Biloxi have not returned to the discussion. Only BBB showed interest.Quote: TumblingBonesIf/when you're in the Philly or Bethlehem area I would be up for getting together.
