Quote: TomspurVegas really is a magical place. For us guys who call it home we sometimes forget the simple pleasures of looking out at the strip from your hotel room and seeing all the bright shining lights. Also you have the worlds cuisine at your fingertips, all the gaming you could want, you could get a hooker in your room within half an hour if you so wished, sports betting, horse racing, shopping, eye candy.......
Easy to forget why we all love Vegas so when you live there.....
Have a good time bud!
Even if you don't love there, sometimes Vegas really can put you in a position of trying to rethink your attitude towards it. During my last visit I was robbed twice. F*cking twice during one stay. It wasn't like I was going through some kind of shady neighbourhoods or I don't know what. Just some walks at night. Yeah and I won't be talking about the police as well. The only thing secure in Vegas are the casinos and that is because of their own security, including bouncers. But if you have to get something from the LV police you might as well just throw your money and documents on the street.
I've been to Vegas a thousand times and never have I hated it as much as then. But all is forgiven and forgotten and at the end of the day we will all succumb to the magical place that is Vegas.

That sucks man, would you mind relating any relevant details about the robberies? Within reason, of course. My goal in asking is to help others avoid similar incidents. I have never been robbed in Vegas but I know of at least one forum member here who has been.

And that's why I don't walk ANYWHERE in Vegas,
except between the casinos on Fremont. It's a
very dangerous city, anyplace where you have
most tourists walking around with lots of cash on
them is a dangerous place.

Well, the first time I was walking S Buffalo Dr (in front of the Spring Valley High School) and got jumped by two rather bulky dudes. They were in their mid-twenties and the one punched me in my face, while the other one was already in my pockes. I didn't carry my wallet in my pants pockets, so they hit me once again and took it out of the inner pocket of my coat.
The second time I don't even remember that good, because I was in such shock and disbelief that I REALLY got jumped a SECOND time during my stay. This time it was only one guy with a knife, I think he was on drugs, because his eyes looked like he was some kind of animal... Well, at least this time I knew better than to take most of my money with me and gave him what I had. It seemed to be enough for his stuff, because he didn't stab me.
The police I won't even comment on, I can only say this: Don't get into a situation where you rely on the police in this city. Especially documents and so on. The most important things were in the safe in my hotel, I only took my ID with me. But, boy, are they slow. I just wanted a statement, so I could get it reissued. I waited two ****ing weeks for them...
I'm not saying Vegas is a place where you are likely to get robbed. On the contrary. I just didn't have any luck.

I must be lucky (or at least use up my luck outside of the casinos) - I do quite a bit of walking, and not just on Fremont or up and down the Strip, and haven't been robbed or even threatened - not yet, anyway.
This includes things like walking from Boulder Station to Sam's Town, from Las Vegas Blvd. to Silverado (and you have to go around the Silverado parking structure on the far side in order to get into the casino), and from Hard Rock to MGM Grand to Wild West and back to Cosmopilitan in the late evening.
Start at the Golden Nugget, walk to the Western Casino, take a left for a block, then left again and walk back to the Golden Spike Casino. Continue down to Main Street Station. Do this any time after dark. I guarantee one of the following: (1) seeing someone who is being arrested; (2) being solicited for drugs or sex; (3) an attempted robbery on you or someone you see; (4) a religious conversion.Quote: ThatDonGuyI must be lucky (or at least use up my luck outside of the casinos) - I do quite a bit of walking, and not just on Fremont.

Or all of the above. Plus, there could be running,
praying, and lots of cursing, all of it coming from
you.
I hang out on the SW corner of Freemont and 8-th, shirtless, selling crack and preaching the good word. Stop by and see me sometime, I'll rob you blind.Quote: EvenBobOr all of the above. Plus, there could be running, praying, and lots of cursing, all of it coming from you.
I've done that AND walked in Vegas.Quote: IbeatyouracesTame compared to a bus ride in Detroit.
Oh yeah, I just ran across the border from San Diego to Tijuana to catch a flight, and haggled with a taxi driver over two dollars which caused me to miss said flight. Currently spending the night in the Tijuana airport. (Please don't ever do this).

Don't worry. Why in gods name are YOU doing it. Is
this what lawyers do in their spare time these days?
Quote: rainmanAll this talk about the mean streets of downtown is scaring me, I have a stay booked at the El Cortezgio in Jan. :)
I don't think it's too bad from FSE to EC(it's only one block), but beyond(south east of) EC it gets shady.

Excellent movie, good reference IBYA :)
Teddy, I feel like there's a story here. Booking a flight to Tijuana cheaper than into SD, so you did that to save money on your Rincon trip?

Only park in the parking structure that is connected to the casino by elevators. It is manned by security upon entry. They have another parking structure that's across the street with no security. I would avoid that one.

I'm not really too fearful. Mostly I was joking around, however I do take precautions like having 20 ones wrapped in a five so if you get robbed you give em the 25 bucks while your real roll stays hidden.
I have ridden almost every RTC route. I have tremendous respect for the RTC system. It works extremely well. The people are generally fine, and the monthly pass is a great deal. The long-haul routes on Flamingo and Tropicana's are especially good. The deuce is okay. The express routes are very good.Quote: PerditionI know we have some bus riders here. I think it might have been terapined that did a 18 min video of the strip. What is your opinion on the RTC routes and have you ever had an issue while riding the bus?
