I was recently playing 3 card poker at Seminole Hardrock Casino in Hollywood, Florida. Someone at my table got a straight flush and before the gentleman could be paid the supervisor came to the table and got the hand history from the shuffler to ensure the hand was a legitamate winner. I was floored that the shuffler could know where every card was delivered to on the deal. I later found out that these machines can also sort the cards. I would like to know how this shuffler works, how does it shuffle the cards? How does it determine what card goes where? I suspect that since the technology is there, the machine can distinguish each card, that the shuffler has a rng and whatever random number comes up the machine will put those cards in order to the assigned random number. If anyone knows this to be the case please let me know. I believe that shuffle master has turned table games into a slot machine with a human element.

I'm a little surprised that they would check for a straight flush at 3 Card; not that it isn't nice to get one, but they aren't that uncommon and it doesn't pay like a straight flush at Caribbean. Over the last 5 years I think I've seen what I consider uncommon scrutiny of a 3 Card straight flush once, at Trump Taj in AC; they counted the cards.
Following the link provided by Croupier, it looks like the new shufflers make it easy to check, and therefore don't slow down the action.

To play the devil's advocate, I think Shufflemaster would say that the shuffler only reads and remembers the cards to guard against cheating. What I think players should be more worried about it preferential shuffling in blackjack by using Mindplay' rel='nofollow' target='_blank'>http://www.hotel-online.com/News/PR2004_4th/Oct04_CasinoCounting.html]Mindplay card readers.
