I've recently become obsessed with roulette. Not actually playing it, mind you; heavens no. Just watching other people play and lose at it. It's the magical wheel that takes your money away.

It would be fun to try a strategy of "wait for everyone else to finish betting, then play all the numbers that nobody else has covered". Sort of like Don't Pass for roulette.

Anyway, I just saw 23-23-25-23-23-36-25-34. All reds, too.

I hope others will post any similarly unlikely sequeneces here.

Very cool!

Not only are they all red, but they are all high (19-36), the first 5 are all odd and contain a four of a kind. Spins 3 thru 7 contain two pair.

Yeah, because of my Poker For Roulette idea, I tend to look at Roulette displays in groups of five - and, if there are multiple cool groups, I'll take a picture.

Which leads me to ask: Where's the dang picture?!?!?

---

If anyone takes an interesting picture, let me know. I'd be happy to add them to my website, and give the casino, and photographer, credit.

FYI: It's generally frowned upon to take photos in a casino, but if you turn the flash off, usually nobody bothers you.

---

On the flip side, thanks for reminding me. I have a few pictures in my camera that I need to add to my website.

I may have posted this elsewhere, but at the Diamond Jo casino in Worth, IA, I saw: 1,1,2,3,5,8,13 on the board while I was waiting for a BJ table to open up. I didn't venture over to see if that was the result of play, or if it someone was just having fun on a closed table.

That would be awesome if it were real.

Silver Legacy in Reno a couple days back, saw 00,00,19,19,30,30. Isle of Capri in Black Hawk, Colorado a few hours ago, saw nine straight blacks on one table, and on another, saw 32 and 35 three times on the sign, including a run of 32, 35, 35, 32 or maybe it was the reverse.

I finally got around to it.

These two are found elsewhere on the WOO site, used with permission from the Wiz. Thanks.
Left: Bally's Las Vegas. Right: 4 Queens, Las Vegas.

The following were all taken by myself, at Sands, Bethlehem, PA.

To see how I used them, go to my Poker For Roulette - Misc Betting Advice page.

Old as the hills, as is everything in roulette. Its been played since the late 1700's and there's no system thats new. Here's a link to a book written in 1910 all about different roulette systems. Its like it was written yesterday and you can find some the systems being sold today as 'new' by scammers. The whole book is there to read online, its fascinating.

>>Just watching other people play and lose at it. It's the magical wheel that takes your money away.>>

Thats because 98% of the people playing have no idea what they're doing. Most BJ players at least learn the best way to play, roulette players aren't that smart. They put most of their money on the inside numbers because of the 35/1 payout. They don't know there are no 'best' bets in roulette, they're all equal, except the 1-2-3-0-00 bet, which is the worst bet on the layout. People walk up, throw their money on some numbers, lose and wander away. Or they win, and eventually lose and wander away.

Saw a good one in Laughlin a few days back, forget which casino.

19 numbers on the board. One was 00. Of the other 18, there were a few more blacks than reds. But all the blacks were even, and all the reds were odd.

I would argue that betting on the inside numbers is the smartest bet in roulette. Because all of the bets have the same house advantage, you would be hard pressed to find a bet that pays 35/1 with only a 5.3% edge.

Scossa.

But you have to trek to a rather distant casino.

Not as impressive as the fibonacci but saw an entire board of even numbers this weekend in vegas. My friend and I commented 'there's the martingale buster'.

Yet another gamblers fallacy. Do the math, all roulette bets are equal, thats the point of the game. To have no best bets, to not have a bet thats better than another. Its a suckers game. People see that 35/1 payout and their eyes roll to back of their heads and they gasp for breath.

Only if people noticed and were betting Odd. A board of all red or all black is far more effective to bust that Martingale.

But even more important, where's the dang picture?!?!?

Which is most likely to deplete a bank roll? Picking one of those inside numbers spin after spin ... or betting on an even-money bet of Red/Black? Of course being right just once on those Straight-Up bets will restore the bank roll rather better than being right on just one of those even-money bets.

I'd argue there is a best bet if your more concerned with your variance than with the EV. If EV is the only thing you care about and measure "best" in terms of, I completely agree. The single inside number has a much higher variance than betting the evens on the outside.. That might be your aim... to get as much variance as possible for your bets. If you are going to make 5 $5 bets, it -could- be said to be better to bet the number 5 five times if your aim is to go big or go home.

However, Roulette is dull.
"Then you can admire the real gambler, who has neither eaten, slept, thought nor lived, he has so smarted under the scourge of his martingale, so suffered on the rack of his desire for a coup at trente-et-quarante" - Honore de Balzac, 1829

"Event betting" sounds as though you're chasing numbers that you feel are "due". In other words you're likely a fan of the "gambler's fallacy"

LOL, if I said I had eggs for breakfast, you would still say I think numbers are due. You're boring, get new material.
