I have always added a $1 tip next to every pass line bet to keep the dealers in the action too. I dont win enough to afford to also add a free odds bet to the original pass line bet. So, my question is
is it better to bet the $1 dealer bet on the pass line at the come out roll, or is it better to add a $1 dealer bet to the free odds after the point is obtained for a better payout?
Second question is, how is the dealer paid on a $1 odds bet for the 4/10 (6/5) and 5/9 (3/2)?

The 4/10 odds bet pays 2:1, so it isn't a problem; it's the 6/8 odds bet that pays 6/5. A an extra $1 6/8 odds bet for the dealers would be paid at even money, assuming that your own odds bet is in multiples of $5 and that you haven't exceeded the maximum odds bet.
As for whether a line bet or odds bet for the dealers is better, the odds bet has a higher expected value, but the line bet keeps it fresh in the dealers' minds that there is always a bet out there for them. It's mostly a matter of what you wish to accomplish with the dealer wager.

WayKewl,
Both are very fine: As a dealer, I like it on the pass line, or on odds, but am not too fond of $1 hardways bets as much as passline/odds!
I thank you for this thread!!!!!!!!

Really interesting, never thought of that. So a pink chip ($2.50) should pay $3 as odds on a 6/8. Could also be used to back a 4/10 and pay $5. Then the standard two white chips on a 5/9 to also pay $3. Learned something new today. Of course you would probably have to stock up on the pink chips at the $5 BJ table.

I generally won't tip on every shooter. 2-3 shooters per hour I'll put something out on place 6/8, my control. I may also put some on the pass line, but I usually have more money out on the place/come bets so that is where I put my dealer bets.
I only ever do hardways for dealers when I'm on them also.

When the table is running good I like to make a come bet for the dealers of a couple bucks and then get the table to add odds along with me. I am amazed at the number of folks that wont tip dealers & sometimes that is a good way to get the table in on some action for the boys.

Interesting, thanks for the responses.
I like the thought of obtaining a handful of $2.50 chips before playing Craps and then forgoing the $1 (higher house edge) Pass Line bet for the following 0% house edge free odds dealer bets:
$2.50 free odds dealer bet for the 6/8 (to win them $3)
$2.00 free odds dealer bet for the 5/9 (to win them $3)
$1.00 free odds dealer bet for the 4/10 (to win them $2)
How many Craps dealers out there that do not use $2.50 chips at their Craps table would allow a same casino $2.50 chip from say the Black Jack table to be used for a dealer bet on the 6/8?

I was wondering myself if a pink $2.50 could be used at a Craps table. However, they don't deal in $0.25 increments, they don't have a place to put pink chips in the racks, and figuring payouts might be confusing to some dealers. Seems like the cons outweigh the pros.
When first visiting a casino about 12 years ago, I had a leftover $2.50 chip. I tried betting it on the Big Six wheel, and the dealer froze up in befuddlement. I even thought I was making it easy by playing it on the 10-1 space, easy $25 payout.
Do the yellow $20 chips that I normally see at Paigow tables ever get bet at other tables?

About a year ago, I was at the ShowBoat in AC and saw a single stack of pinks on each side of the bank at a craps table, and asked if that meant we can make fractional place bets. The answer was 'No.' I didn't think to ask why there were there.
I have a meeting next week with a high-ranking casino manager, to get his opinion of my Poker For Roulette game. If possible, I'll ask about this, too.

I saw that at a poker table. Once they got into the pot, the dealer changed them for reds and put the yellows in the rack.Quote: DweenDo the yellow $20 chips that I normally see at Paigow tables ever get bet at other tables?
On a similar note, in Vegas if a foreign casino chip is bet in poker, they dealer will let it play, but avoid it when taking the rake.

I think all dealers would prefer to get hand-ins, rather than risking their tip on anything. However, I usually bet "two way" hardways when the table is running hot, reasoning that if they hit, they hit big. If I've had a good session, I'll tip via hand-in of my odd chips after coloring up too.
Good luck with the meeting DJ!

I usually put $1 beside my pass line bet whenever I'm the shooter or when some one gets a hot roll. if I hit my point, then I'll put another $1 for the dealers and back it up with $1 (6,8,4,10) or $2 (5,9).

As a former dealer (I'm a floorman now), I disagree with this. While the good majority do prefer taking the tip; I was always happy to bet it, as long as it was a decent bet.Quote: AyecarumbaI think all dealers would prefer to get hand-ins, rather than risking their tip on anything.
Unfortunately (or fortunately, for my co-workers), we weren't allowed to parlay a winning dealer bet.
