UTH: Do you play 865 Trips bet?

UTH is ~2% HE.
865 Trips is also ~2% HE.

I put 10% of my Ante bet on it.
So if $15 Ante, i'll put $2 on Trips.
Adds a little excitement without increasing the HE.

In Atlantic City (precovid), Ocean and GN both had 974 Trips (1% HE).
I would play the table min for Ante/Blind and press the Trips bet if i'm on a Play winning streak. (I normally press Ante/Blind if on a winning streak)

Do you play 865 Trips?

Based on my experience, people playing UTH always play the trips side bet, no matter how bad the odds are. It’s a slow game and but it is a good game for beginners to gamble for a jackpot.

3478 is what I have always had access to, so if I ever saw a 3568, I'd play it without question.

I have never done side bets in my life since they are all more volatile than I would like. But I guess if I came across this, I would rather play the 865 Trips just by itself than the main game - if the pit boss allowed it. This is because there is actually a noticeable 0.5% house edge difference between the 865 Trips and the publicly-available Wizard strategy. I have seen people play Three Card Poker and Criss Cross Poker only placing money on the 3/5 Card Bonus and I think you're allowed to do that in 3 Shot Poker too but let me know if there are places where this isn't allowed.

Given the low amount that I play UTH (once in my life so far), buying the James Grosjean book to learn his slightly better UTH strategy would actually be a negative EV move for me personally lol.

My trips bet would be half my ante bet. So if I go 4X $10 play bet + $10 ante bet + $10 blind bet + $5 trips bet, the max bet would be $65. I'd multiply that out by 25 to get a buy-in of $1625.
I'd avoid the 8, 7, 4 (3.5% HA) & 7, 6, 5 (6.2% HA) tables completely due to the HA.
The 9, 7, 4 tables are at 0.9% on the trips HA; and the 8, 6, 5 are at the 1.9% HA.

Just ran across Victor playing at a French table that has 100 instead of 50 for the Royal Flush on trips, but it's 8, 7, 4 otherwise. So that could pay out $2,500 instead of $1,250 for him on the trips if he gets a Royal. But after winning the first few hands, his Victor-luck is kicking in hard.
He was playing a new side bet I haven't seen called the Pocket Bonus. He had a Jack and Ace of Hearts and hit the bonus for 20X or $500 on a $25 bet. He also had an Ace and another card unsuited and hit it for 10X or $250. A pair would pay 5X or $125 and a pair of Aces would pay 25X or $625. He lost a hand with an Ace and lost his Pocket Bonus bet which I didn't expect. I'm not sure what the rules are. Yeah, he lost 3X and on the 3rd time he got paid on the Bonus. I think he's letting $250 dealer errors slip by.

The maximum payout on this table is $50K, so $100 Ante/Blind and $50 trips bet with a $400 Play bet could net $55K+ since the trips pays 100X for a Royal, and be truncated at $50K. A straight flush would pay $7.5K. Actually it says $50K maximum win on the Bad Beat bet, so a $100 Blind bet would pay $50K for a straight flush loss.

There's a bad beat portion of the Blind payout, I'll wait for him to collect before I discuss.

So it looks like 4, 5, 6, 25, 500 for the bad beat bonus (up to a straight flush) instead of 1, 1.5, 3, 10, 50 (straight flush), 500 for an outright win on the Blind bet.

No, because the element of risk on the main game is 0.58% (following the Wizard strategy). The possibility of winning the blind payout on a straight flush or royal provides enough of a jackpot thrill for me.

But these straight flushes (including royals) happen only once every three years for most frequent players. That is too long a shot.
