Does anyone have any great strategy to win playing craps.
I know about odds and pass don't pass bets.
I'm pretty much a rookie after that though!
I was thinking of taking odds on the 5-6-8-9, but not the 4-10.
Seems like this would be a good way to minimize losses.
Heading to Vegas next week, any advice appreciated!

I play a lot of craps and have won quite a bit over the years. I like playing "the wrong side"
because the odds are just slightly better. When playing "right" Over time the percentages are with taking the odds on all the numbers.
Remember that when you have moved to the 2nd roll you have a 40% chance of losing overall. By taking the odds on all the numbers you merge your 40% chance of losing with a 50% chance of winning. Just remember that u may lose quite a few times on 4/10 but the payoff when you win is huge.
If playing the wrong side it's just the opposite. I never take odds because then you are merging a 60% chance of winning with a 50% chance of losing.
Remember this is all "over time" in the short run anything can happen.
My advice to first time players is have a pretty good stash of cash when you play and bet small amounts. If you run into an unusual number of losses in a row over time things will right themselves. If you bet a lot on each roll and hit a bad streak you will have to quit and be unable to let the odds catch up for you over time.
Lastly---Always and I mean always have a loss limit and a win limit and stick to it regardless od emotion and greed. When you hit your win limit quit and go do something else. If you continue to play the odds will catch up with you over time. I have seen so many players up 50% or more only give it all back and more because of the greed emotion we all have inside us. With a win limit you don't allow the odds to get you.
Hope this helps

Craps, like any other casino game carries house advantage that is built in. Bottom line is that if you play occasionally and follow perfect strategy you still give up the house advantage, no matter what system you use.
So the bottom line is to play for fun, recreation, and enjoyment.
There are a thousand "Systems" out there that will lie to you and tell you you can "Beat the House"
Truth is unless you are stealing or cheating that's never going to happen.
There are however a few money management systems that do work quite well as long as you have the discipline to enforce them. Many folks like me, being Craps addicts have instilled this fact into their brain by many hard knocks and being kicked in the teeth so many times we have to eat our meals with a straw.
Doesn't matter what you say there will be a holes out there that will go up against you just for the sake of argument. I used to feel sorry for them, their deficiencies are glaring but over the years I have learned to accept the fact that you just can't tell a know it all anything, so I don't even bother.
I go to Vegas about 6 times a year on average, and I gamble non stop for days on end, and in the last ten years I have never lost over $300 dollars, but I've won ten times that amount in a weekend. It all comes out in the wash.
Any hobby you have, unless you like to go on nature walks a block from your home will cost you. Gambling is just another form of entertainment, and if you treat it as such then you're golden but if you let it take control of you then you are going to lose, plain and simple.
Knowledge of the game is crucial as well as an Iron Will of discipline to just stay within the house edge.

>Does anyone have any great strategy to win playing craps.
Craps is a game where you can sometimes walk out of the Casino with some money.
Losing is not practically a guarantee as it seems to be with most of the other.
And we are talking about just winging it too, not becoming a student of card counting
or something.
No strategy will beat the ultimate odds in favor of the house. Basically you count on
being lucky once in a while. It can be pretty cheap entertainment, I'd say you might find
on average you are just paying a bit more than the cost of the drinks you get. And it is
one game where drinking while playing you can get away with.
Taking the free odds is definitely the way to go to have fun with it, as the possibility
of results up or down becomes wildly variant. My unscientific observation is that it is quite common to wind up being up or down 10 times your average bet when taking the odds, for example if that is $30, up or down $300 happens all the time in a "session". Lots of fun! Likewise, absolutely stay away from all the sucker bets, which abound and are what they really count on you doing so they can make money.

Well by not taking odds on the 4 and 10 you are trying to minimize variance, but it doesn't change the house edge in any way.
-----------------
Next lowest house edge besides the pass line bets:
Place bet on 6/8
Buy bets on 4 and 10 *particularly if the casino only charges commission charges when you win".
-----------------
If you get bored with your safe strategy and you have enough bankroll then just continually bet not only pass line bets, but also come bets. The constant betting will increase excitement (but only if you have enough bankroll).

Odds on any Pass/Come/Don't Pass/Don't Come bet changes the House Advantage but not the Expected Value. Your variance changes because you are betting more.
