Quote: RogerKintNice win but unfortunately that bankroll won't last long unless you're seeing lots of dealer mistakes (even then, the game can be brutal). Don't forget, your life is one long session. Why not quit while you're ahead and use the 1k for Christmas gifts? Everyone you love will be super stoked on you!
This.
In weaker moments, I've played -EV games (for me, that means "not poker"). I got lucky, hit one slot jackpot, and at present, I have a lifetime win of >$600 off of bad games.
Quote: dajakestaHi guys, in a series of sessions, I managed to parlay 150 into 4800, some will go into payments of bills and etc. After that, I'm left with around 1.3k. If I were to green chip UTH would 1k be enough? I bought in for 1k today and broke even despite having a hot streak going since I was too greedy and didn't color up at +300.
Would $1k be enough for.....what exactly?

Green chipping (rolling with 25 bucks a hand (which is more like 50 just to fold, 75 if I want to keep it)
dajakesta is talking about parlaying, so that makes it difficult to determine average bet. There is also a hint that he may believe 'quitting while ahead' is a successful betting strategy. These things are hard to answer in the context of RoR, so the prior posts may seem odd.
Quote: odiousgambitPerhaps "risk of ruin" is usually figured for positive expectation, but I certainly make calculations with my negative expectation play. 10 times average bet, for a session, is usually adequate even in a high variance game. 20 times average bet is fairly comfortable.

no no quitting while you're ahead is a sure way to lose as cards don't have any memory. I was super lucky though. That's all I can say. Also, I flat bet

So, how are you taking advantage of the casino? You're giving the impression that you're a typical player who is playing with negative expectation. If that's the case, the cards not having memory doesn't help you.
Quote: BlueEagleIt seems me that dajakesta is simply asking how much money he should start a session with if he wants to bet $25 units. I've seen other posts asking about Blackjack bankroll, so I don't know why this question is confusing people.
Normally Bankroll questions imply the player is looking for some acceptably low risk of ruin. Playing a negative EV game in that context doesn't make sense since ruin is pretty much guaranteed.

Ruin IS guaranteed.
But yes, that's why I'm still confused as to what he wants to know.
$1000 for...what? 1 hour of play? A 3 hour session? A 20-hour trip in LV? Enough to play for the rest of the year?
