Ok, so as a few of you know, I'm still a little new with the whole casino experience. I live in Maine where there are two really small casino and the closest big casinos are in Connecticut.
Anyway, a few weeks ago and buddy and I made a conn trip. After losing like $600 at the craps table, I went in search of a new game to play. As I wandered through the isles of slots and table games at Mohegan sun, a barracrat table caught my eye and I wandered over and watched a few hands. Having read up on the game (thanks to the kind and powerful wizard) I figured I would give it a try. So I slapped my last $100 bill on the table and waited for the dealer to give me chips. As he got them out, I asked about the game and the card I saw every other player scribbling on after every game. (Barracrat is not in any Maine casino)
So the dealer then explained that it was for keeping track of the hands, and I was like ok, I got this now and started to mark out the wins. After seeing me start keeping track, the dealer made it a point to make sure that I knew the "proper" way to use the card. (BTW this was in some of the worse broken English I've ever heard, was only able to make out like every 5th word). So I watched a few more hands and then put $25 on the felt.
At this point the dealer said something I never thought a dealer would say to me in a casino. He said "you should go and watch the other tables so you can understand the game better."
Lucky for him my buddy was with me cus I was the only playing player at the table and that passed me right off. I promptly left the casino and went to foxwoods and had a grand old time wining back my money I lost at Mohegan.
Whathe would you have done if a dealer said that to you?

As a landscaper you learn a few things. 1. Mushrooms can be as hard as rocks. 2. It's not how fast you mow. But how well you mow fast. 3. Not all grass was created equal.

I think I'd have to be there to judge rather than guessing. He might have been trying to help.
What do you think he meant?

I was under the impression that he wanted me to not play at his table due to me being new to the game and what not. Mind you, I have nothing against that casino itself, just that dealer. It made me feel unwelcome at his table. He probably was trying to be helpful, however, I'm the kind of person who learns best from doing rather the watching.

The very first time I played Blackjack was at MGM Grand several years ago. All I knew about the game is you wanted to get close to 21 without going over. The dealer asked me if I knew what I was doing and recommended that I buy a strategy card from the gift shop. I really didn't know what I was doing, so I wasn't offended.

I was buying in at a $10 table in Harrahs with eight $20 bills. I asked for it mostly in red, with a few whites. Dealer said its a $10 table, you don't need any white. I told him I had wanted them in order to tip but he was right, I didn't need any. I think he was the only dealer I never tipped in my playing career.

Frankly I am a bit offended when they trot out a golf pencil and a score card for me.
Comments, particularly in broken English are simply unreliable so its your guess as to what was said and what was meant and why.
If you think it was insult... go elsewhere.

Pretty sure those cards are setup so you can play tic-tac-toe with your comrades in between hands.

Well, only you can know the tone the dealer used when making the comment. So, that is up to your interpretation. As for understanding baccarat, there isn't much to it. You bet on either the player, the banker, or a tie. The rules for card drawing are a bit more detailed but the dealer will handle that part of it for you. Baccarat is one of the simpler games in the casino to play since you don't have to memorize a strategy like Blackjack for instance.

If his English was as bad as you say, it might just be a misunderstanding or cultural difference. He may have legitimately thought he was trying to help you. Maybe he knows his English is bad and he was frustrated with himself that he couldn't explain the game better to you, so you'd be better off watching some other people play.
Or maybe he was just being a jerk. Like others have said, we weren't there so we can't really judge the situation properly.
