I printed off the strategy card for UTH from discountgambling.net, but was told by the Ontario casino that spreads the game that they wouldn't let me use it at the table. They went so far as to suggest I could step away from the table and use it when I was not in a hand, but not at the table during a hand. They do let you use a strategy card for BJ.

Anyone else have success or failure using a UTH strategy card?

I tried out UTH using Stephen's strategy chart over in Atlantic City a few months ago. The pit manager at the Showboat allowed me to use the printout but said I had to keep it on my knee or somewhere else, it couldn't be on the table. I had already half-memorized the strategy anyway so I just put it in my front shirt pocket and pulled it out only if I really needed to.

Bally's was much more relaxed about it, IME, which is why I played there most of the time. They didn't mind if I kept it on the table. As you might imagine, it piqued the curiosity of a lot of folks, both players and dealers. One floor manager even asked me if I had an extra copy so she could use it herself when she plays!

Caesars and Trump Marina also have the game, but I forgot to bring the card with me when I went there so I can't comment.

I have it memorized. Nobody, but NOBODY, plays the correct strategy for this game. Most people check to the river, unless they have ace/face or a big pocket pair. They are always amazed when I win a 4x raise with Q8s. I try to give people tips; one guy was checking, and even folding, his made pairs. They are used to regular poker.

I guess you've never played at a table with me then :-) Like I said, it does make for some interesting conversation. One dealer was convinced I would lose my shirt doing it that way. But a huge stack of green chips in front of me after an hour or so, and a dollar for the dealer on the Trips bet every hand eventually kept him quiet.

Since the dealer never folds a hand no matter how bad it is, playing UTH is like regular Hold'em heads-up against a huge idiot. Most people don't really get that though, it's much easier to just bet the farm on the Trips and hope for "the big one."

Just like anything else at a casino, ANYTHING can happen in the short run. The optimum strategy, with the bankroll to back it, will give one the best opportunity for success. However, with a LIMITED bankroll, there is no harm to see the flop and proceed from there. I can personally attest this strategy will work - I walk away from the UTH table a winner every 3 out of 4 times......

I agree; that is one of the downsides of playing UTH--you need a BIG bankroll to play properly. Even at a $5 table, you'll probably need at least three times the bankroll you'd normally bring to a $5 blackjack table. Usually $100 will last for a while at $5/hand BJ, but at $5 UTH, where as much as $30 can be lost on a single hand, that's obviously not enough.

I think where people really go wrong is in betting the minimum on the Ante, and a lot more on Trips. Even though it's a relatively low house edge, it still means those people have a net loss on ~85% of hands played.
