I recently visited a Total Rewards Casiono in Las Vegas and was playing Mississippi Stud. I immediately noticed that the first packet of cards out of the machine was a 4 card packet for the 6 card Royal Bonus, then a 3 card packet and then packets of two for each player. I had never played this game with the 6 card Royal Bonus included but it struck me as having a negative impact on the players hands because 4 cards were eliminated from the deck before the Mississippi Stud game began. In effect, the casino was rasing their edge on the players above the edge they would normally have. I didn't like this at all. I was wondering if anyone ele had noticed this and would like to know if the Wizard or someone else knowledgeable about the math of this situation could provide the answer regarding the effect of this procedure.

If you aren't playing the six card bonus, there is no effect at all. There are always a lot of cards that aren't used. They are usually just at the end of the deck, not the beginning. Zero effect on the math. The cards are still random every time.

Thanks for the response but I am having a bit of a problem getting that through my head. If I have a pair of jacks but the other pair were skimmed off the deck for a completely separate game I have no chance to get another jack and am therefore negatively impacted. My issue is that most games with bonus gimmicks have the bonus game imbedded in the main game (like the 3 card bonus on many games) where the same cards are used.

Or, if there were no jacks in the first 4 cards, you are positively impacted. This happens more often than there being a jack in those 4 cards, so if anything you should be happy ;)

It has no effect on the math/edge at all. Don't think "those woulda been my cards" because they are just as equally likely as being your cards as not being your cards.

Clown please think through this logically and don't be superstitious. Doesn't a good card such as a jack have an equal chance of being on top of the deck as opposed to being the tenth card into the deck? So whether the casino burns cards it makes no difference. There's always going to be a lot of unused cards in the deck.

Assuming you misread his handle. His handle is "ctown", not "clown."

I would like to thank everyone for their explanation that there is no negative effect in the way Total Rewards Casinos deal this game. I get it now and appreciate your help.
