There's a side bet available in a few casinos in London (and other places I'd imagine, but I only have experience of London) for Baccarat - the '3 giving 8' bet. I've tried to find reference to it somewhere on here, but haven't had any luck - apologies in advance if I haven't dug deep enough!
Anyway, the bet! If the bank has a total of 3 after the initial two cards, and the player has 5 or less, according to the tableau the player draws a card. If this card is an 8, the bank doesn't draw again, and the 3 giving 8 bet wins. It pays 200 to 1.
I've seen a few different edge percentages quoted in different clubs, would be cool to find out a more definitive one.
Sounds like you are mistaking this for the "super égalité" bet, égalité on 3 paying 200-1, which seems a bit high, usually the 200-1 payout is reserved for a égalité on zero.

I'll do this Monday if no one else hasn't by then. Send me a PM Tuesday if I forget to do it by then.

A Link to 3g8
I'll go back to my lurkery now hehe
I think the main reason people like to play it is that you can get a double hit if egalite 3 & the 3g8 come in on the same hand (Bank has 3, player has 5, player's card is an 8)
Doesn't make it any less of a mugs game, tho.

I've seen this bet and there's another on Blackjack called "Top 3" that pays on Trips, Straight Flush, of Suited Trips ( http://www.ukcasinotablegames.info/blackjacktop3.html ) . It seems as if people like the high payout possibilities, usually as a get out of jail bet at the end of a losing run, but some play it all the time. What seemed strange, I thought only the London casinos could take the hit; but quite a few provincial ones have the Blackjack bet, albeit with a £10 or £25 maximum. The 3g8 bet isn't that common as fewer places in the UK play Punto Banco these days - and most I've seen prefer some form of the egalite bets.Quote: Paradigm...side bet...hits every 219 hands...who is making this wager...
At 200 to 1 I get a house edge of 8.68%.
Even rarer than the Three Giving Eight is a TIE on a Three Giving Eight. Player 5 hits for the 8 to tie the game at 3.
Also rare in Baccarat is generous tipping. So when the dealer hits a $5 toke on tie in a Three Giving Eight scenario, that doesn't suck. :)
