I was playing Crazy 4 Poker last night for about an hour or so at our local casino. This particular casino has had a lot of management changes and such over the past few months, and this probably contributed to the situation i'm about to describe.

I was betting $4.00 on Ante and Super Bonus, and $3.00 on Queens Up. I get dealt a J, 10, 9, 8, 6. So i promptly tripled down on my straight with a $12.00 play bet.

The dealer then flipped over J, 10, 9, 8, 4. We both had the exact same straight, so the dealer pushed the Ante and Play portion of the bet, and paid me on Queens Up and the Super Bonus. The pit boss just happened to be watching, and didn't think i should get paid on the Super Bonus because i didnt beat the dealer.

I counter with the fact that if the dealer had flipped over a flush, i'd still get paid there on a loss (unlike Ultimate Texas Hold-Em) so why wouldn't I get paid on a push?

He goes to ask other floor supervisors, and the table games manager just happened to be there at the time so he came over to me and explained it like this......

"The Ante and Super Bonuses are bets against the dealer, they are both mandatory and must be bet before you get any cards. To get paid on these bets, you must beat the dealer. However, as a courtesy we pay you anyway on a loss or a tie."

I was dumbfounded. This makes me think that in the future, they might require you to BEAT the dealer to get paid anything on the Super Bonus side. I've never seen any casino play the game this way in the 4 years i've been playing the game.

Also, what would that do to the house edge or the odds if we had to play at such a disadvantage?

I saw this also at an Indian Casino in SoCal last weekend. There was a lot of commotion, and yelling by a player, at this table and me and my BF walked over and heard the story.

My BF looks up the rules on SM and the WoO on his iphone and says the SB is paid with a straight or better and we walked away never knowing the outcome.
Casinos will bend the rules to them first, always.

The rules at shufflemaster just say "and win the Super Bonus with a straight or better"

As to the HE change, it has to make it worse. Maybe someone will do the math for you.

Pays to ask first before you sit down and play!

The Super Bonus wins (and the original wager remains) when the player has a straight or better.

This is my bad. If I could do it over, C4P would have a "Blind" wager a la Ultimate Texas Hold'em and there would be no more confusion.

Thanks Roger! This is the first time I've heard of anyone even question the payment though, so I figured it wouldn't hurt anything to pose the question here.

Crazy 4 is my favorite specialty game, behind only craps and blackjack. Thanks for creating it!
