Issac Dulgarian opened up as a heavy favorite on last weekend's UFC cards.
Multiple large bets were placed against him, including several that called for a first-round submission. After a lackluster effort, he tapped late in the first round.
He's been fired from the UFC and Nevada is holding his pay for the fight.

I recently came across a list of approximately 50 UFC fights, dating back to Diego Sanchez, that exhibited both suspicious betting patterns and a suspect finish. It was supposed to have been turned over to the FBI.

From what I gathered, Issac Dulgarian went from -280 to -130 in less than 24 hours. First round submission dropped from + 850 to only +400 in a matter of hours.

Before the fight, Dana White was contacted by IC360, a bet monitoring service, which warned him that there was some unusual betting activity on ssac Dulgarian. According to Dana White, he called the fighter and his lawyer and said, "What's going on, there's some weird action on your fight. Are you injured? Do you owe anybody money? Has anybody approached you? According to Dana White, who he referred to the fighter as the kid, said, "NO, I'm going to kill this guy"

After Issac's poor take-down attempt, the fight ends quickly in the first round as his opponent puts him in an uncontested rear-naked choke.

It's important to note the uncontested part, as it should be 2nd nature for a fighter to peel the arm down. Even according to the commentator(Michael Chiesa), as the fight was in progress, his opponent's top hand was right there for the taking.

Dana White claims he immediately contacted the FBI.

For now, he's innocent until proven guilty; however, it's looking really bad considering the unusual betting activity that correlated with what happened and the ultra-poor performance by Issac Dulgarian.

Apparently, some of the books took down the line due to the heavy movement, and some of the bigger books have even refunded losing tickets on this fight.

I added the bolding above.

The concept of "innocent until proven guilty" applies only to the criminal justice system in which a person can be imprisoned and even executed. It does not apply to the way that companies, institutions and common people can judge you and choose to not associate with you.

It was never proved that Al Capone was guilty of being a boss in organized crime.

It was never proved beyond a reasonable doubt that OJ Simpson was guilty of killing his wife.

It has not yet been proved that the man suspected of being Charlie Kirk's assassin is indeed guilty of that crime.

If you find your wife naked in bed with your best friend, she has not yet been proven guilty of cheating on you.

But we are confident enough that these things are true such that average people and non-governmental institutions can proceed with their lives and businesses as if they are true - that these people are not innocent. And, sports gamblers can also make their own judgments and may feel perfectly justified in making snap judgments about these people and judging that this sport lacks integrity (as you have basically argued.) Because there is no "innocent until proven guilty" rule that applies to life outside of the criminal justice system.

Well put, and let me add to it that sometimes fiduciary duty takes precedence and your duty to one party might be greater than that to the other.

For an unpleasant example, suppose I run a school for children and there's an employee there who gets arrested for a certain type of crime against children. He is innocent under the law until he is convicted. But I also have a duty towards the children under my supervision to protect them from such crimes and I'm going to dismiss and ban this employee until his case is resolved. If those charges go away by dismissal or acquittal I will welcome him back and make it up to him in every way I possibly can, but without that I can't.

Likewise the UFC is selling tickets, being paid by sponsors and a lot of action is being wagered on it, and their fiduciary duty to paying fans, sponsors, and bettors is to provide a non-corrupt sporting event, and even the appearance of corruption brings the product into doubt. Like if you're eating in a restaurant and you hear someone hawk up in the kitchen. Doesn't matter if anything came out or not, you feel disgusted.

Finding your spouse naked in bed with your best friend is highly suspicious however. 💡 I read somewhere that a to be Groom saw his to be bride and his best friend having sex the day that their wedding was going to happen. 😱😳 He dumped her and cut of all ties with his ex best friend. 💡

I always wonder HOW MUCH you could make if you had concrete inside information that a fix is in. Take the hypothetical ‘early prelim fight’ with both fighters -110, and you know who the winner will be. Can you figure out a way to win $100k? A million$? More?

What bet size becomes ‘suspicious’?
