Where's Mission?
Is it safe to assume we are not having a contest this year? Last year Mission started getting things ready in mid-July.
As of right now, the 20200 NFL season is less than a week away. (Actually, a bit more than a week, since we don't include the Thursday games.)

I know. Mission has been barely on the forum for many months! We all miss him. I briefly thought about stepping up to organize and host the NFL picks contest this year, but wasn't sure that would be acceptable to people, and I'm a bit reticent about the work (and possible grief) that would be involved.
If we're going to do anything, we need some decisions very quickly.

Time is becoming critical for an NFL Picks contest -at least one that includes the first week of the regular season. This is the last day of 'this weekend,' let's hope that Mission does what he says he will.

Hey, I'll have the thread up and PM's for Picks out to people within the next few minutes. This can be the unofficial thread for the game. I'll also post the Lines and PM seogriar2 and everyone who played last year.
I haven't determined what the prizes will be for this season, but they'll be at least the same as last season.
Finally, I'm going to change the rules of the Perfection Bonus such that it will be paid out directly at the end of the season, or maybe even by Amazon Gift Card during the season. Offsetting Entry Fee to the winner is too much of a PITA. Also, for that reason, I'm going to pay Second Place, Third Place, "Most Average," and "You Suck," directly this year and those people will still have to arrange to pay their Entry Fee to the winner at the end of it.

I think there is an error in the rules as somewhere you mentioned week 17. There are 18 weeks in the NFL schedule now. Unless you actually want the contest to not include the last week of the season.

Okay, it looks like 12 sets of Picks in with one of those PM's being a duplicate; sixteen reminders were sent. Many of the initial invitation PM's were not opened, so I assume that those people have not been on in recent days.
If anyone misses this week, please keep in mind that you can start playing as of Week 2; you'll just have used your Skip Week.
I'd also like to see a total of at least twenty players to make the Playoff game worth doing. We will run the main game regardless of turnout, but I'm only going to run the Playoff game if there are at least twenty commitments.

We've got seventeen players to Week 1, so we will want to add at least three in Week 2 to make the Playoff Game worth doing.
If you wish to participate starting Week 2, please keep in mind that you will have already used your Skip Week, so you will not have one. You may participate in the following ways:
A.) Simply PM me your Picks by the time they would be due (10:00a.m. EST 9/16/22) as normal.
Or:
B.) Post in this thread that you would like to receive a Thursday PM as well as a Saturday reminder to make your Picks, if you haven't already.
We also have several PM's that have not been opened, nearly ten, I believe, so if those people appear before next week they might end up playing.
I'd like to wish everyone good fortune in the contest. I am not making Picks this year because my lifetime record is strong enough and over a large enough sample size that I don't feel like I have anything to prove. I wouldn't accept Entry Fees if I were the winner, anyway, so all I would be doing is saving whatever prize money would correspond with any prize that I won.

We always hate to go sub-.500 as a group Week 1, but hopefully Week 2 will turn it around.
This post is mainly to thank EdCollins, once again, for first building the program, second using said program to, and third, posting the Standings every week. That honestly saves me a ton of time as grading the Picks by hand would otherwise be the longest part of this game's administration.
I'd also like to thank Miplet for his program, but I will say that it, unfortunately, no longer works. I suspect the reason why is because VI changed its formatting such that spreads and MLs are no longer on the same page. It's honestly no big deal, so I wouldn't expend time to rewrite the program; posting the lines honestly doesn't take more than five minutes, even doing it manually.

There is; it's $10 a week that carries over if nobody wins it the previous week. I probably will pay these out on a semi as-going basis, not necessarily immediately, but I doubt that I will wait until the end of the season again because my record-keeping sucks...so it will be easier to have fewer people to pay out at a time.
Also, congrats to Miplet!!! Has anyone ever banged it out Week 1 before? Does anyone know offhand?

I plan on trying a rewrite as a I use it for my line change stuff. Might be ready for next week.

You're amazing, miplet. Can you also provide a link for the software you used to make your picks in the first week? We'd all like to go 6-0 in this 2nd week.

Simply click on the compare lines button. It will show all the lines that have changed with the current line in parentheses. Just make sure that the WoV lines are for the current week and not last.

I haven't determined what the prizes will be for this season, but they'll be at least the same as last season.
Finally, I'm going to change the rules of the Perfection Bonus such that it will be paid out directly at the end of the season, or maybe even by Amazon Gift Card during the season. Offsetting Entry Fee to the winner is too much of a PITA. Also, for that reason, I'm going to pay Second Place, Third Place, "Most Average," and "You Suck," directly this year and those people will still have to arrange to pay their Entry Fee to the winner at the end of it.
