Now I know why you all let me play!
Nowhere to go but up, right?
The Patriots/Bills game was nowhere close to UNDER, in any case. I'd rather have turned it into added prizes, but either way, unclaimed monies from previous years (and a few dollars added to that) have been disposed of.
I hadn't tallied the O/U Picks, so the other plan had I not noticed that would have been to pick the Raiders to cover, which they also didn't do. If the Cowboys and Cardinals fail to cover, we were just, 'Destined,' to lose...and I must have miscounted the Cowboys anyway as I thought there was a consensus tie of Vegas and Arizona.
I’ll edit that in next time I’m on the computer.

Since it looks like there was a SNAFU and he had no pick for that game, but mentioned 2 teams in the over/under, and it is well before game time, I agree with letting his pick in. I am hoping you get zero objections.
Sometimes variance is ugly.
If you have the Rams and Over tonight as I do, my apologies.
I make Bad Luck Eddie Mush look good.

I know there is still one more game this week, but I guess you are forced to try and go for the "you suck*** " prize.
***: if the "bad luck" holds, once you start going for the the "you suck" prize, you will then probably win most of the picks over the next few weeks (so a catch-22 like situation).
Note: we all ahve a better percentage than what is shown on EdCollins' summary table, because one of the 12 picks was a tie. So, if you have 6 wins, your record is actually 6-5-1 which is 54% not 50%.
Yea, I noticed that and I thought about changing it. We've always ignored ties completely in the main game and don't count them at all in the percentage (maybe we should), so I did the same here. But yea, I think I should give everyone a full half a point more, which will adjust the percentages accordingly. No sense in making us all look worse than what we really are. :) Thanks.Quote: gordonm888Note: we all have a better percentage than what is shown on EdCollins' summary table, because one of the 12 picks was a tie. (Easiest solution was to count that push, and any future pushes, as 1/2 a point.)

You Suck prize in sight!
I am doing well at picking winners against the spread, but I feel clueless picking the O/U Total Points. Everytime I pick the Point Total to Zig, the teams Zag. And vice versa.
Thanks. I was 13 seconds away from going 7/8.Quote: gordonm888Congrats to EdCollins and Soopoo for picking 6/8 correctly in a wild week 2.
Bills fans across the country must be sick to their stomachs today. It's those types of losses that really hurt.
Second best game I've ever seen. Only Miami- San Diego forty years ago was better.
Recall both teams needed at least a tie to advance to the postseason.
After getting down 15 points midway through the fourth quarter, the Chargers stormed back with two Herbert TD passes, including one as time expired in regulation to force OT.
After the teams traded field goals to open the overtime period, the Raiders drove across midfield, owning the option to play for a win or tie, the latter of which would have sent both clubs to the postseason and left the Pittsburgh Steelers on the outside looking in. The Raiders elected to kick a field goal instead of just letting time run out.
Edit: During their final drives before OT, as I recall the Chargers had to convert on six different fourth-down attempts.
It was the greatest NFL playoff weekend in history! While my Packers lost yet again, it was just an unbelievable weekend of NFL football games.
I think the NFL needs to change OT to something similar to college football. Both teams have earned the opportunity to score on offense and should be given that opportunity. In an offense-centered league, it has to be done.

"Golden Point ^^^ " style overtime period(s) are the pretty bad, they should have "set overtime periods*** ", in my opinion.
^^^: The NRL (Australian Rugby League) is even worse than the NFL in this regard, because once overtime starts in the NRL, the next score wins (even if it is just a "1 pointer").
***: By this I mean, for example 10 minutes of overtime and play continues for the full 10 minutes (no matter how many scores are made) .Then maybe(?) a 2nd overtime, if it is still a tied game. Lastly, if it is still tied after that, they can go back to a "Golden Point" style 3rd overtime, since the NFL needs a team to be the winner for a Post Season/Playoff game.
YES, the college OT's are exciting.Quote: VegasbrentI think the NFL needs to change OT to something similar to college football.

I liked the old college OT rules, but not the new ones where you essentially end up going for two point conversions after two possessions. I'd like to see a short intermission so the players get a chance to recover a bit.

Totally agree with that. The current college OT rules with the one play "2 point conversion" feels too much like free kicks (in soccer) - a single all-or nothing play on a tiny fraction of the field that barely represents the nature of the game that is being decided.
An alternative would be to give possession in OT to the team that had the ball at the end of regulation - on the same yard-line with the same down and distance. In other words, make the OT an extension of the 4th Q. In the Bills/Chiefs game, the Chiefs would have kicked off to the Bills to start OT.
Almost anything is better than deciding a playoff game with a coin flip.
Blah!

I would be way against that as it just rewards bad clock management.
All that needs be done is tweak it to both teams get at least one possession. If both score then a true sudden death.
BEST SOLUTION BY FAR.
Quote: SOOPOOI have the best solution. (Big head of mine). Each coach will select a yardline his team will get the ball on. Whichever team selects a yard line closer to its own goal line gets the ball. First score of any kind wins. What yard line would you choose? You don’t want the ball on your own 1 yard line (I think?) but you also WANT the ball! (If both coaches pick the same number whichever team scored last gets the ball). This requires the head coaches to have prepared for this. I’m guessing with two good offenses like Bills and Chiefs you pick around 5 yard line. If it was Steelers/49ers as example, maybe 15 yard line.

Maybe the USFL will try it.

I am probably the only one excited for the USFL. To me football should be played year round. I do hate the fact that they will not be playing any home games this year.

Rats! I thought there was nobody! I was not even that aware of it returning until a couple weeks ago. I saw something said "USFL" and thought I was reading old, old stuff.
I doubt I will follow it much beyond if I am to audit the sportsbook in my new casino gig.

If they make any changes, and I’m not sure they will, it’ll be to grant a second position to the team kicking off whether the receiving team gets a FG or TD. Players union will oppose any sort of college style OT, or full quarter of play, which is likely to extend playing time. I assume if there’s a safety or Defensive TD on the first possession that the game would end without a second possession.
I'm not sure what the objection to a college style OT would be, it's not like there are that many OT's in a season, are there ? The Player's Union accepted an entire extra game this year, right ?Quote: unJonPlayers union will oppose any sort of college style OT, or full quarter of play, which is likely to extend playing time.

You must not have followed how much the players Union fought the extra game this year. The 17th game was extremely negotiated. Players got, among other concessions, an extra 1.5% of revenue, a bump in minimum salaries, fewer preseason games, and a reduction in the max time for full pad practice. Even still it only passed a vote of the players 51.5%.
