Tiebreaker: Total Points in Championship Game is:
I do not think it will be fair to let people withdraw after the first game is decided.
Done. I forwarded my picks to you, that I originally sent to Troopscott on Thursday.Quote: beachbumbabsI have a copy of all picks except from EdCollins, who said before he might be out without troopscott's bonus.
I would suggest to Ed that he send them to me or post them just to hold his place, without him or anyone giving up their right to withdraw for a refund, pending hearing something from troopscott.
Quote: DRichMy vote is to continue the contest with the assumption Troopscott will do what he said.
I do not think it will be fair to let people withdraw after the first game is decided.
I'm leaning towards your first paragraph, not really agreeing with your second, but not sure what to do about it. I'm suggesting people could perhaps withdraw through tomorrow night if troopscott is still a no-show by then, all are locked in if he does show.
One problem I have is that nobody has troopscotts picks or money in escrow. I'm on the fence about whether he should be required to seed the pool if he's not able to play. But I do think he made a firm committment to provide the seed bonus. Open to discussion.
Right now there's $200 in fees in escrow. 4 prizes.
1st Prize = 65% of entries + $50.00 =$130 + $50
2nd Prize = 15% of entries = $30
3rd Prize = 10% of entries = $20
Booby Prize = 10% of entries + $50.00 = $20 + $50

Tom - missing tiebreaker
Hopefully Gordo' s missing picks are for games later in the schedule.
Troop's a contender for a prize in Mission's NFL contest, and has been good about posting there. I do hope everything is okay with him, as this radio silence seems out of the ordinary for him.
Thanks for picking up the pieces BBB!

I agree. I think there's a problem.
There's an outside chance he's messing with us, because he did a bit in the coop game, and just watching this thread without signing in. But I'm more concerned than thinking we're being punked.
Gordo gave me a complete list through some of Dec 29. I'm pretty sure it's a copy/paste error, and I expect to amend the picks post once he sees this thread and fixes it, even it it's a bit late. The same deadline of midnight tomorrow ought to be sufficient, but again open to discussion.

Is there a way to verify that the picks sent to Troop are still unopened? If so, then his entry should be allowed until the first game goes off. Otherwise, it would be pretty easy to lock in the best or worst record by fading the group picks.
Personally, I think we hold him to his commitment to provide bonus money, even if he doesn't get his picks in. However, I am willing to consider the extenuating circumstances.

Each of you can look at your outbox. It will show whether what you sent to troopscott was opened by him.
I was waiting for an answer to "who is holding the picks?" before I sent mine, so I didn't send to troopscott, and can't verify on my own PM what he's done. But, he hasn't signed in since Dec 7. If he hasn't signed in, he hasn't read any PMs. So I would bet no one's picks have been seen by him.

Although you are correct that he could do that, I wouldn't expect that of the person who is contributing $100 to the pot. The biggest prize would be $180 of which he contributed $125.
Edit: oops, slow post. Does Gordon possibly benefit from seeing everyone else's picks?
I know for a fact that whoever set these lines knows more than I do.
I have observed, however, that college games tend to run up the score, so I think the spread will be wider than predicted in many cases. So I took all favs.
Gordo does not have it within him to fade our picks due to his error. If I thought he could, I would have truncated everyone for now. But he couldn't occupy such high moral ground here as he does, and then cheat. :)
I suspect I spend the next least amount of time. I picked every favorite if they were favored by 3 points or less. I picked every dog if they were an underdog by 3.5 points or more.Quote: DRichI am willing to bet that BBB put the least time into her picks. Picked every favorite.
Again, I don't follow college ball... I know nothing about any of the teams.

Quote: DRichIt appears that all of the favorites won and covered on day one to go 5-0. That would mean that Babs has a perfect record. Congrats.
I'd say everybody did pretty well, really. As a group we went 28-12.
Quote: AyecarumbaTomG and Gordon888’s picks are closely aligned.
Interesting. However, I had posted both their picks for these games at the same time, so I don't think it's anything beyond coincidence.
No sign of troopscott. I asked around here and there, and no one has heard from him. However, back in November, he told someone he might be pretty busy and offline for some wrestling events for a kid or something. Pretty vague, but all I have.
With that said, I feel pretty strongly he committed to the seed money of $100, even if he's not entered to defend it. But I suppose it's possible we never see him here again.
Next game is tomorrow. I think I'd like to hear from those playing, on a vote, whether we continue or call it off and I refund everyone now, with or without the seed money (which is what made it +EV to enter, of course). Please weigh in before the start of the next game.
I vote to continue, just because it's interesting to see how it all comes out. With 34 games to go, there's a more than good chance I won't win, so hopefully my good start isn't influencing either me or anyone else.
What say the other players? (I will disregard any non-player opinions).
Troopscott had picks in the latest week of the NFL picks game, though maybe he was one of the three people that Mission used default picks for.
Any correlation between my picks and someone else's picks is purely coincidence. I did pick a lot of favorites to cover, and took a decided SEC bias on some games -but I found that picking 40 contests ATS was brain-jellifying and didn't work very hard at it.
Looks like so far, I'm behind my first set:

I think babs has inside information and might be a member of an Italian family that influences game outcomes. If she ends up a perfect 40-0 I may have to put a contract hit on her unless she refunds my $25.
Collusion ? Well, that's not for me to say. BUT I can't rule it out, the evidence is just too strong. We need to get to the bottom of this.Quote: DRichClearly this contest is fixed. Can it just be coincidental that the person holding all of the money is winning and happens to have a perfect score and hasn't lost a single game?

BBB, I just have one more question before I put Airman O'Malley and Airman Rodriguez on the stand. If you gave an order that Santiago wasn't to be touched, and your orders are always followed, then why would Santiago be in danger? Why would it be necessary to transfer him off the base?

You have a WINNAH! well done!
Babs has some deep voodoo going on, very impressive start especially considering that the first batch of bowls involves the most obscure teams.
I AM a college football fan, but let's face it: I can't keep straight Tulane and Toledo, and who knows anything at all about Florida International, Hawaii, Ohio University, Louisiana, etc.? And most of the spreads on the bowl games involving the major teams seem pretty reasonable to me -so picking against them is like a 50-50 coin flip.

No, no apology I short-handed it last night, said results coming or whatever. For the 2 Friday games, I just put how many wins out of 2 to save 5 minutes toting it up tonight. I'm trying to group results a little without flooding the thread, since it's 39 games over 3 weeks.
So most people got +1, a couple got +0, nobody had +2 on the Friday games. Those notes will get edited out after tonight's results.
