2018 WoV Picks game (discussion thread)
Any picks made override any default strategy you may have in place. I think that's going to be close enough that everyone can accept the intent.

In fact, whatever spread you may enter as your pick isn't used at all. Only the actual spread we use is the spread that determines the win or loss. So if you enter -35 instead of -3.5 or -1 instead of the actual spread of +1, those typos don't matter at all.
And yes, if your typo turns your pick into an ambiguous (invalid) pick, like "New York -3" during a week when both the Giants and the Jets are favored by three, there is no way to tell which New York team you want. Or "Raiders o/u 45" which doesn't indicate whether you want the Over or the Under. In those cases, you don't get to fall back on a default pick. Again, once you submit picks, any defaults you have are ignored.

it was on me I just forgot to delete the u. plan as to take the over. Default picks wouldn't have mattered

I didn't have to take Cleveland +2.5, but it the Vegas Insider consensus was +3 at about 7 or 730, Houston was +1.5. By the time the lines were posted, Cleveland +2.5, Houston +1. We need a consistent time, so the lines aren't posted to be beneficial to default picks by cherry picking. I lost 1 game to this because of the spread difference and others gained 1 or 2. It matters, it's a valid complaint. The problem still can be the lines change frequently, I'm not even sure if the consensus line has a time stamp. Here is the deal. There was no advantage or disadvantage to anyone. Everyone plays by the same line. Lines start changing within hours of coming out. So based off of that lines should be posted as soon as they come out.
Not being a dick but he puts time into this game. If you dont like the way it is run start a competing game with rules you like and the one everyone likes best will survive.

No, but it is DEFINITELY an advantage to have the OPTION to take a bye week in week 17 if it will help you. As an example, if you are ahead by more than 6 guesses then you would take a bye week and secure a win. Even if ahead by fewer you might want to take a bye week if your opponent needs a perfect week to overtake you. If going for Mr. Average and you are at exactly 50% going into week 17 then of course you would take your bye week. There are a few other scenarios as well.

Also probably smart to take your bye week in week 17 if you are 1 game behind the leader and he’s already used his bye week. That week can be especially tough to handicap based on all the scenarios with teams needing to win, not caring, resting players , etc

Vikings 31 @ Rams 38: If you had told me that Kirk Cousins' best performance of the year, with Minnesota's vaunted defense, would come in a loss, I wouldn't have believed you. But, here we are. The Rams are backing up the, "Super Bowl Favorite," tag every single week.
Texans 37 @ Colts 34: Last week, I couldn't understand why a team with the Texans' roster should be 0-3, I think my head would have exploded trying to figure out 0-4. Waste of a career for Andrew Luck. Damn shame. Texans are 3-1 or maybe 4-0 with Luck as the quarterback.
Bills 0 @ Packers 22: The Bills march up and down the field on Minnesota and make that defense look foolish, only to be shut out this week by the Packers. The Vikings and Packers tied in Week 2. The NFL is tough to understand, sometimes. "That's why you play the games," as they say.
Buccaneers 10 @ Bears 48: What the hell just happened? Trubisky threw six TD passes? If the talking heads' jaws aren't too sore from being all over Mayfield last week, even though he threw zero TD's, maybe they'll anoint Trubisky as the second coming this week. Winston and Fitzpatrick both looked equally awful.
Dolphins 7 @ Patriots 38: I'm sorry, the end of what? It's the same song and dance. The talking heads say it's probably over, then the Pats blow out an unbeaten team. Then they go 12-4. Then they make a deep playoff run. The talking heads will be right eventually, probably when Brady is 47.
Lions 24 Cowboys 26: Both QB Lines would point to a winning effort. It's okay, the Lions won their Super Bowl last week. Beating the Patriots is the closest they've been for 10+ years and the closest they'll likely be for another 10+ years. The Cowboys, at best, go to the WC and lose.
Bengals 37 @ Falcons 36: In this outside of Conference affair between the Big Ten and the SEC, the two combatants ran up over seventy combined points as little to no actual defense was played. Atlanta seems to be on the wrong side of a lot of shootouts lately.
Jets 12 @ Jaguars 31: Can someone call up Todd Bowles and remind him that he still has veteran Josh McCown on the roster at Quarterback? Why is Darnold still starting football games? He has a 72.6 QB RATE for the season, which is significantly boosted by garbage time.
Eagles 23 @ Titans 26 (OT): This made me smile.
Browns 42 @ Raiders 45: Even when you try to gift the Browns a game, they can only accept 1/3 times. Two Fumbles Lost and Two Picks for Mayfield! Maybe that'll shut the talking heads up. They literally praised a third down incomplete pass yesterday, you'd have thought it was a 70 yard TD.
Seahawks 20 @ Cardinals 17: Um...the right team won? No TD's for Wilson and they made Josh Rosen look half decent. Looks like Bradford might have had his fun for the season, at least. How do you not blow out the hapless Cardinals? Their best receiver is 73 years old.
Saints 33 @ Giants 18: Playing a non Division I school can make any college team's defense look reasonably good, but the Saints will return to Division I play next week against the Redskins.
49ers 27 @ Chargers 29: F Dean Spanos. I was really pulling for the 49ers and Beathard in this one, but it was too much to hope for. In an alternate universe, HE WHOSE NAME SHALL NOT BE SPOKEN is still QB, in another universe still, Alex Smith is tossing the pigskin for Coach Harbaugh.
Ravens 26 @ Steelers 14: For the fourth week in a row, the Steelers are (snicker) tied with the Browns in the standings. The best part about living in the area is listening to the local talking heads lose their minds. "More at fault: Defense or Offense," was actually a radio topic today.

Oh for sure. Would have been a GREAT play on the 49ers part. Let him go suck elsewhere. Although as much as I think Smith is great, not sure it would be enough to make them contenders.

Oh ok. Yes I did feel it was directed at me, guess it wasn't. Maybe I will do something. I think people would like to be involved in almost anything they can get their hands on, we have fun. Earth to Mission: Miami is a bad team that beat two very bad teams as part of being "unbeaten." Miami's personnel is well below average. And the Patriots go 12-4 every year because for the past 15 years they have had the incredible luck to be in the AFC East with 3 very bad teams that they go 6-0 against just about every year. That means they typically go 6-4 against the rest of the NFL. Brady is definitely a force to be reckoned with, but IMO the Pats are not an elite team.

I agree with that, but my point is that the Patriots, once again, blew out a team after all the Penny Hennys of the world proclaimed, “The Sky is falling!”
I fully admit that when Brady is 67 years old, his QB RATE will probably only be in the high-70’s. Seriously, though, it does have to end sometime. It just gets old every single year with every talking head wanting to be the first to suggest it. Do you know they’ve won two Super Bowls and been to three since the first time someone suggested that it’s, “The end of the line?”
As far as luck, did the Patriots have, “Incredible luck,” to get through the playoffs to eight Super Bowls, winning five of them? So what if it’s the AFC East? Put them in the North, and what, they’ll go 5-1 in the Division year in and year out? Put them in the AFC South, still 6-0, until recently.
I didn’t say the Pats are an elite team this year. I think that the Rams, Jaguars and Chiefs are all better...then I probably have five other teams I would say, “As good or better,” at least from what I’ve seen so far this year.

Ben Roethlisberger turned the ball over five times alone and the Browns were gifted a free possession when a punt doinked off of a Browns helmet...and they tied.
Jon Gruden play calls the offense like it’s 1988, and the Browns lost. How do you favor attempting a 47 yard FG out of friggin’ sand rather than going for it on 4th-AND-2? The Raiders were also 0-3 going into the game.
The Browns’ lone win is against the Jets, who come from that little conference called the AFC East that you hold in such high esteem above.
Mayfield is fine. This is again one where I’m annoyed with the talking heads for wanting to overblow reality by having the take that we’ve the next Tom Brady on our hands.
But, seriously, did you watch the game? He scrambled out of the pocket and escaped a sack to heave a ball three yards out of bounds bringing out the punting unit and they went on about it for two minutes! Like, he’s the first guy to ever escape the pocket and throw a ball away.
Anyway, Tyrod Taylor is an upgrade over DeShone Kizer and the Browns are improved. But, the Browns have done the following so far:
-Tied the Steelers in one of the worst games I’ve seen the Steelers play in the last twenty years. Also, the Steelers have been putrid on defense.
-Beat the New York Jets, who themselves are 1-3 with a rookie QB who has so far been awful, narrowly.
-Lost to the Saints, who I think only play seven or eight people on defense, in a game in which they only scored 18 points.
-Lost to the Raiders, who would be winless but for the Browns.
But, I do agree they are improved. I actually think their defense is pretty good, overall, and they have some building blocks on offense. They’re 3-1 ATS, so if the season were to end today, I’d be wrong about them ATS.
That said, I still don’t think they win six games this year. I think five is probably a stretch. I could be wrong, but I look at their schedule and I can find them maybe three more wins.
