Brent Musburger is leaving ESPN to work as a front man for a sports wagering network that will be housed at the Southpoint Hotel-Casino.

I'm a little surprised, but he is getting long in the tooth, and maybe the idea traveling all the time and sitting in cold TV announcer's booths has lost its appeal.

I am not clear on how this will work, will he host a radio show inviting guests to discuss the picks they are selling? If not, where's the money to be made in this venture?

His first guest should be Al Michaels. That guy always mentions how a games scoring changes affect bettors.

About time. Hearing him announce Mizzou football was getting old.

As long as he doesn't end up walking around Fremont broke asking for cash like Jimmy, it's all good.

It is fun to listen to some announcers during certain games. It seems like some have a bias at times, most likely due to a point spread. Hey, lets face it, gambling is the reason the NFL and NCAA have become such dominant forces in the sports world.

More information on the network. It starts up on Super Bowl Sunday.

It appears to be mainly online-only, although some of the shows will be broadcast on a dedicated channel on Sirius/XM. It's not clear if the radio channel will be 24/7; right now, it's used for sports play-by-play broadcasts (currently, non-Power 5 Conferences college basketball).

I love Brent Musburger... I truly do.. but does anyone hear believe that he has never bet sports. I heard him in an interview saying he never bet sports... only in the early 70s for a dinner with a fellow producer. Cmon Man!

But good for him to jump into a HUGE industry that is not going away anytime soon!

He says in Youmans' story on the VSiN site that he bets "recreationally," and would never try to make a living at it.

Ummm, if he is only a square like me, why should I tune in, much less pay to hear what he has to say?

From Musberger...“I’m not a handicapper. A lot of people do better picking games than I do,” So he'll be hosting and interviewing. Already on the site is Matty Youmans, who for many years was the handicapper/sports betting columnist at the Review Journal. My guess is there will be more. We'll see how long it remains free...
