this is the rule in full btw,
Quote: linkThe line of scrimmage for extra points was moved from the 2-yard line to the 15, making it a 33-yard kick. Two-point conversion plays remain an option from the 2-yard line. Both plays are now "live," meaning either team can scoop a loose ball and record a two-point score by carrying it into its respective end zone.

Why does that indicate the safety is only "one point"?
This means you have to declare your intentions first? No more sneak 2 pointers? That's, literally, a game changer.Quote:Two-point conversion plays remain an option from the 2-yard line.

Can you still 2pt from the 15, fake kick style?

oh that sucks.. I like seeing trick plays.
so why the change from the 2yd line to 15 for the extra point?
it's been the 2yd line for like forever.
they want more 2pt tries to keep the audience interested?

There is a one point safety for extra points. It is hard to have happen; something like:
Team A passes
Team B intercepts in end zone and runs out
Team B runs back in end zone and is tackled
One point safety
If Team B didn't run out and back in, it would be a touch back and dead play. Team B could intercept in the field of play and run back in also (I believe)...but how many people are going to do either one of those things?

There was a question on this in a WoV trivia challenge recently. My claim that it is possible was hotly debated so thank you for helping to explain there is such a think as a one-point safety in the NFL.
They keep changing the rules. I assume the League wants to appear like they are looking after player safeness (not safety, that's different, that's a game term not a PC term). They want ticket buyers, and they want TV viewers ( and all the alternatives ) even more. We'll see,.....soon.
According to this graph, at 25 yards and closer kickers still make over 90% of their kicks. So, it's pretty close to automatic, but not a 'gimme.'

You don't have to intercept/recover the ball in the end zone now. Since the defense can now score on a try, they can intercept on, say, their own 1, then run it back into their own end zone and get tackled.
I expect there to be at least one "pick-two" (interception run back for 2 points) this season.
Quote: theoriemeisterIf I recall, the reason for the change was that the PAT had a success rate of over 98%, pretty much a cut & dried play, almost a no-brainer. The NFL wanted to make the game more exciting for the fans. Moving the line of scrimmage back to the 15 yard line and treating it like a true field goal will certainly make it more exciting.

The kick will actually be 32 or 33 yards. 15 yard line, goal post 10 yards deep, plus 7 or 8 yards for the snap/placement.

Right...that is the way I read it...and why I said this:

I'm hoping to see a "pick two"...
