I admit this was mathematically simple and easy to program, but I think my site was overdue for a sports futures house edge calculator.

Please click the link and let me know what you think. Remember to click the check box if you use American odds.

I got a plan, we take all your picks we reverse them like one of those twilight zone episodes where everything is the opposite. You say "black" we go white.

Now if only we could fix the spelling in the title.

Using my calculator, here is the 2014 Super Bowl house edge at a few sports books.

Sports Book House edge
William Hill 25.90%
Bovada 19.23%
Pinnacle 18.85%

What is the basis of the house edge calculation? It appears to be calculating based on the assumption that every entry has an equal chance of winning, which, if you ask me, makes about as much sense as combining the three possible bets (banker, player, and tie) of baccarat together as a basis for "the house edge on baccarat."

A couple issues:

Just need one edge here: "assuming every bet has the same house edge edge."

Should be how much juice "calculate house much juice"

I entered the final closing parimutual odds for a few horse races, and the resulting calculation of house juice correctly reflected the approximate track takeout in the jurisdictions that I used for the experiment. I say approximate, because there is also a small effect of something called "breakage" (rounding) which could not be accounted for in a calculator such as this.

I find this kind of thing useful. Something else which I find similarly useful is a "dutching" calculator, in which one is effectively betting against a particular event outcome or set of outcomes, by making wagers on the other possible outcomes proportionally weighted in a way that makes the bettor indifferent as to which of the "others" wins.

I don't think that it's based on the assumption that every bet has an equal chance of winning; it's the assumption that every bet has the same house edge.

In a sense, it's the "average" house edge of all the bets (though it's a weighted average)
