Here's the thing.....San Antonio should win the championship. However, since I continue to believe the NBA is just one notch above Pro Wrestling, I think that unless San Antonio puts together a Herculean effort, the Miami Heat will end up being champs...............which is a shame.

You know, I had always laughed off such conspiracy theories, but then I began to have doubts myself after that ridiculous trade which allowed the Lakers to acquire Pau Gasol. Heck, even Gregg Popovich was upset at the time. (I didn't blame him either) That trade helped the Lakers win 2 more championships, and the NBA most definitely reaped the benefits as well.

It's a good topic to think about and it seems plausible enough to me. Pretend it was fixed, would there be any laws they would be breaking pertaining to it? Baseball would be in big trouble, but because they're under an exemption from anti-trust laws and have to answer to keep it.
I am a robot.

I'm not really saying it's "fixed".....or maybe I am? Here's my problem.....I think the NBA has defined itself as a star driven league, therefore the stars get all of the breaks. I think THAT is dictated to the officials. If a team, playing good team ball, can't overcome the edge that the "stars" get then it's over.
I think the shame is that for the fan who is knowledgeable, it really takes away from the game.
As always, I'm all for games that require little to no officiating. Machines do not have a bias.

So what happens to your theory when the Spurs win it? Kind of kills your whole image of the League and your thought that they control it?

It has nothing to do with officiating. I got a good price on San Antonio to win straight up tonight and played it. That's the reason they'll lose.

I wonder about the NBA being "fixed" too. Short answer no it's not fixed. League official(s) are not meeting with the Ref's to tell them to swing a game one way or the other. However....it is very much a star driven league, and anyone who watches the games can tell you stars get all the calls, and non-calls too. For a star to get called for a walk in the NBA, they have to take about 6 steps. So prediction time; there is no way this series ends in 6 games. It's in everyone's interest for the series to go 7. So it will. Is that fixed?....maybe not...but influenced...yeah I think so.

Speak of the devil. The Spurs were down 1 point, and the Heat may have gotten away with a foul on Manu Ginobili with a few seconds left in the game.

The refs called almost nothing at the end of the 4th and overtime. Lebron got fouled a few times and no call. Just a plain old fashion great game.

No other explanation for what could have led to Manu's game tonight and that miracle sequence of events at the end of regulation. No other freaking explanation.

For all the times this happens, I know there's someone on the other side feeling the exact opposite. I know it because it's logical but that feeling must only exist in theory. Maybe that guy is walking around with a smoking hot gf, no cares in the world, big swinging Johnson...bizzaro gts4ever

I wish that I could say that I'm surprised with the outcome, but I'm not. Didn't even watch since I felt I knew what would happen. The games should not be controlled by humans. Too many calls are made in the game of basketball, thereby making it a game that the league and officials control. Change the rules so that they are more clear. As little as possible with gray areas. More reliance on computers.
The NBA is all about building a story. Whether it is to build a good player into a "Star", or whether it is to build a team buzz to enhance the amount of time that the NBA is in the media, it's about attracting attention even if it is to the detriment of a fair and honest game. The NBA is the worst of the major sports.
Did the Bruiser and Crusher play? How about Black Jack Landa? Who's head got smashed into the buckle? Anybody get pile drived?

Steeldco, I generally agree with your posts above. Under the leadership of David Stern the NBA has grown by leaps and bounds. The league was in rough shape when he took over. But he's created a league dependent upon "story" and star power...and less so actual basketball. It's done well in the ratings, and made lots of money for the league. But it's created, an environment in which the "sport" is less important than the "show". So you get situations that as a sports fan or bettor I just can't trust completely. It is a little too much like pro wrestling for my tastes. It's a shame cause I love basketball, but the NBA is unwatchable now.
