miplet, I think I see four errors:

Beardgoat: 2 for the Bengals, not 3.
deedubbs: 3 for the Vikings, not 5.
Knuckleball3: 12 for the Broncos and 11 for the Pats.
mwalz9: 3 for the Bengals, not 4.

Please confirm. Everything else looks okay.

I wrote an Excel program that determines the winner at the click of a button. If anyone is interested, I can upload it to my website, and you can download it at your convenience.

Thanks miplet!

Denver receiving the most points? Really? I think there are too many people drinking the Manning kool-aid.

As a matter of fact, I find it interesting that Denver is so liked. Makes me want to fly into Vegas and go against Denver in every game.....and I AM a Manning fan. I just don't think that they are as good as the public feels they are.

I think they are good enough to have no trouble with every team in the play offs except the Patriots, and that will be an interesting game.

They had 3 losses at the start of the season... one to the Falcons, who I feel have faded, one to the Texans and one to the Patriots. The team has gel'd together much more since then, while the Texans have stood still. The Pats are always difficult to play, but I think Manning and Fox can scheme for the Texans.

You're correct. I missed catching that one. miplet's listing for Washington should be a 3 and not a 4, nor marksam40.

As soon as you can after the first game starts, post the entries you received by PM. Thanks.

Good luck to all participants.

With all due respect, and mind you I can easily be wrong, but the following are the cumulative records of each of the following 3 AFC teams' opponents at the time that they played each other:
Denver's opponents were 46-76
Baltimore's opponents were 54-58
Houston' s oponents were 68-54

My takeaway? Denver hasn't been tested. They've won against weaker opponents.

Ok, here you go. Let me know if you find any errors. It seems to be working correctly.

http://www.edcollins.com/wizard_nfl_playoff_pool_07.xlsm

Depending upon your Excel settings, you may need to enable macros when the workbook is first opened.

Note that there are more players to enter. (thecesspit mentioned he had more entries via private messages.) The spreadsheet has room for four more entries, but you can easily insert even more rows than this, if need be - and everything should still work fine, including the automatic sorting when the button is clicked.

Simply enter the winning teams in the white cells. (Four teams this week, four next week, two the week after that, and then the Super Bowl winner.) Click the red button. That's it.

I hope I didn't forget anything. I guess it's mostly done. It didn't take long and I enjoy writing Excel macros. (I've got nothing else to do today, until the first game starts.)

It currently is formatted to fit nicely on one page, but I really don't see a need to print it.

My Visual Basic code is there to view, (I'm not hiding it) so everyone can see my poor coding skills. :)

That's very interesting to hear because it shouldn't take any time to load at all. None. Zero. There's nothing to it. The file size is small and there's really just a few lines of code, and very little data. But I'm glad it's working okay.

... but why the hatred for Brady?

SOOPOO feels that as a Buffalonian, it's in my blood. I think Nareed believes it's because I want to be him. Truth is, it's none of those things, but I don't want to gum up the thread with a pages long rant.

Maybe you can take solace in the fact I don't hate The Patriots, specifically. I actually love Welker and Woodhead. Or maybe it'll make you feel better knowing a part of my soul died seeing that no one took them at less than a value of 8 (you heathens! =p). In any case, it should make you feel better when he makes me eat my words as he always does, and go far into the playoffs, and continue to torment me with his pompous face for years to come.

In any case, let's get this started!

Feel free to start a new thread (here or on Diversity Tomorrow). I'm happy to climb aboard the Brady-hate-mobile. But not so much to stop me rating the Pats relatively high!

No, I don't think you're missing anything. I think you're correct.

After tomorrow's games, there will be 128 different possible scenarios left. (7 games ^2)

I modified my spreadsheet to loop through all 128 of these possible scenarios, listing the winner of each NFL game, and then listing the winning player. You're correct. I don't see your name at all.

I initially assumed that Baltimore and Seattle would win tomorrow. But then I then modified the program and assumed that Baltimore and Washington would win, and then Indy and Seattle, and then Indy and Washington and looped through all 128 of these possible scenarios, with each of these teams in the mix.

Same result... I don't see you at all.

:(

However, it appears a few other players will be eliminated after tomorrow, so you will have some company.

For me, even though I gave more points to Seattle than I gave to Washington, I see that I should now cheer for the Redskins. The difference I gave these two teams is small, but several other players gave a BUNCH of points to the Seahawks. Thus, my chances improve quite a bit if Washington wins, even with the paltry 3 points I gave them.

Sure, you have several chances. For example, assume the Ravens and the 'Hawks win tomorrow. You win with the following eight scenarios:

1) Hou,GB,Bal,Sea,Hou,Sea,Hou,MISSION146
2) NE,SF,Bal,Sea,NE,SF,NE,MISSION146
3) NE,SF,Bal,Sea,NE,Sea,NE,MISSION146
4) NE,SF,Bal,Sea,NE,Sea,Sea,MISSION146
5) Hou,GB,Bal,Sea,Hou,GB,Hou,MISSION146 *
6) NE,GB,Bal,Sea,NE,Sea,NE,MISSION146 *
7) NE,GB,Bal,Sea,NE,Sea,Sea,MISSION146 *
8) NE,SF,Den,Sea,NE,Sea,NE,MISSION146 *

The first four teams in each line are the winning teams next week. The next two teams listed on each line are the Conference Champions. The final team listed is the Super Bowl Winner. The asterisk indicates you won via a tie-break.

You also have several (16) winning scenarios if the Colts upset the Ravens tomorrow.

You're fine.

I didn't look to hard but I'm pretty sure if you made your 12 and 11 from the same conference, you'd be in a tough spot.

If the system is crappy, I apologize for anyone's wasted time.

EdCollins,

Thanks for the reply, that's awesome! I was hoping I wouldn't be knocked out simply by virtue of how other people picked. I suppose I should just hope for the Colts to upset the Ravens as that gives me more, "Outs," so to speak. I kind of imagined it would be game over for me if Seattle loses to Washington!

You're contributing to a free prize pool!!!

Besides, the system isn't crappy, I personally like the system. You just kind of come up with a certain strategy and hope it plays out that way. You probably can't even really go with what you think will happen in assigning points (except I'm a homer, so I did with NE) you kind of also have to strategize to such an extent that you assign a few teams points simply because you don't think anyone else will have that.

it occurred to me too late, that I was not paying enough attention to this factor. Teams that eliminate each other should not be closely ranked, I think.

Hmmmm... I think we both missed two possibles for you.

Ravens win today, Seahawks win today.
Patriots, 49ers, Broncos, Falcons all win next week.
Broncos and 49ers in Super Bowl,
Broncos win Super Bowl.

If so, you finish tied with MidwestAP at 102 points. (You two would have to pick a total score prior to the SB.)

And even better...

Ravens win today, Seahawks win today.
Patriots, 49ers, Broncos, Falcons all win next week.
Broncos and Falcons in Super Bowl,
Broncos win Super Bowl.

You win with 101 points.

Yes?

Points so far after yesterdays game. If yesterdays winners go deep, todays leaders will do well. If Yesterdays winners lose next week, Todays leaders wont be next weeks leaders. Still early.

Yes?

You're right, Sir. Thanks. Maybe I wasn't hitting the button or typing the teams in right when I did it, it was 3am. LoL Thanks!

I'm home sick with a bad cold so it's possible I made an error. Here's what I have for the 128 possible scenarios that could occur:

The first four teams listed in each line are the winning teams next week. The next two teams listed are the Conference Champions. The final team listed is the Super Bowl winner. The name at the end is the winner of the pool, if those teams won.

A single asterisk indicates the player won via the first tiebreak.
Two asterisks indicates the player won via the second tiebreak.
Three asterisks indicate those two players must turn in a total points scored prediction, prior to the game.

The list is sorted by the final column, player name:

New England should be able to take care of business against Houston, so you probably want to see your name a bunch of times in the bottom section of the list.
