For those of you that gamble at any of the properties on the strip, can you see any difference in the hold percentages of the $1 and up slot machines? Also, does "M-Life" give better comps compared to "Total Rewards"?

I don't know the answers to your questions, but I'm interested in keeping this thread alive. I've been a loyal Harrah's player for about 5 years, but have become disgruntled with their stingy comps. I'm making the transition to MGM properties. I was hesitant to leave Harrah's because of the free room offers. But so far the offers I've gotten from MGM seem to be just as good, and for better properties.

There seems to be some consensus that Harrahs gives room offers for lower levels of play at the expense of in-casino comps for table play. I've personally found MGM properties much better at comping modest play with buffets, show tickets, etc.

Harrah's is smart, they bring lots of low to moderate players with cheap or free rooms to get them in the door, then squeeze them with their terrible gaming. I have only earned 645 points in the almost three years I have been playing at Harrah's properties, and I always can get rooms in Reno for $15 a night, I got two nights free in Vegas, and everything is always under $100 for the most part. Granted I have only gotten one Harrah's comp (free breakfast for an hour of $5 play) and MGM has only given me some decent, but not as generous offers but I figure it is because I am only in Vegas twice a year and I go to Reno about once a month.

So would you say that you've earned about 645 points at the MGM properties too? If so, it sounds like Harrah's offers are a little better....I'm definitely going to try and play at a couple MGM properties on the strip just to see what I get.....I've heard the rooms at the MGM properties are much nicer than the Harrah's properties, so maybe that's why they aren't as liberal with their room comps...?

Harrah's comps model and MGM's are different. MGM's comps model is about the same as everywhere else. You earn points and use them. Table game play is rated well and you get comped as you play meaning that if you play quite a bit, you'll get meals and other incidentals taken off at the end of your stay.

With Harrah's points, you don't get near to theoretical return on your table game play. You earn decent points on slots. But Harrahs rewards you with very lower hotel rates to get you to come back. And the diamond and platinum perks are meaningful. Don't expect any comps except for what you've earned in points.

Me personally I like to stay and play at the MGM properties. Although there seems to be some varying opinions, it seems that the MGM properties do offer better comps.

At least for rooms, Harrahs I believe is much better. A few people in my family only play slots with around a $200/bankroll per day. While they don't get a massive amount of offers, it isn't uncommon at all for them to get 2 free weekday nights and relatively cheap(50-70) nights on weekends. From what I understand they have yet to receive an offer from MGM that wasn't a mass mailing that anyone that doesn't even have a card could use.

I still prefer MGM though. My level of play does get comped rooms at the lower and mid/upper tier places(I usually stay at the Mirage). I attempted this level of play at the Paris a year ago or so, twice. The best I ever got was $39/weekday rates I believe. The other bonus on MGM is that I can choose between the Mirage and something like NYNY. Both of which are in very different locations. Harrahs properties is really limited to right in the middle of the strip and nothing else.

Harrahs is more nationwide if you care about such things. My parents were able to get free rooms in Indiana I think because of play in Vegas. It was simply a hotel to sleep at so they could continue on to NC the next morning. Sure was better than $80 at a holiday inn. :)
