near miss is the new standard from slots

i observe this as i get sucked into freeplay on online slots. I frequent betmgm and every new slot that they offer has some kind of near miss mechanic, and sometimes the near miss mechanic is placed into a few different types of near misses on the same slot.

I like the slots that give me a pity jackpot on the 2nd spin.
