A person on Youtube with a large following, Professor Slots, posted a video a while back that implied that casinos have the capability to set the slot machines to "tease" players with a win in the first 5 spins and draw them in. His system is for players to play machines for 5 spins, then move to another machine and keep doing this to take advantage of the "teaser wins".

Although getting up and leaving a machine is never a bad idea, is there any way for a slot machine to be programmed to pay more aggressively at the beginning of a session, or even a way for the machine to recognize it is a new session?

Welcome to the forum.

If a slot machine were rigged in this way, it would likely be out of compliance with gaming regulation.

In addition to this, the slot machine would stand to lose the casino money, as players would learn to get their "teaser" and promptly cash out. (Casinos do not seem to like this sort of thing.)

If the game award from the "teaser" is less than the cost of the 5 spins, what is the point in pursuing it?

I think the expertise of Professor Slots has been discussed here:

It's selective memory.

Suppose we have a very simple fruit machine, essentially you can only win a range of prizes, your chances of winning anything on each spin is 20% and the RTP is 97.9%. After 5 spins 18.459% will be ahead, 10.240% the same, 71.301% behind.

The ones who lose will tend to forget about it and move on or leave the casino. The ones who still have their fiver, may well play again. It's only the ones who "won in the first 5 spins" who are likely to mention it.

7.559% of people will win £10+ and 1.491% will win £50+, in their first five spins; certainly the latter group might mention it!

I just tried this and lost $1600

It's not even like I lost $200 then made $100 then lost $300 and made $250, I straight-up lost all the money
