When Chinese themed slot machines came out a few years ago, the base bet amount determined which progressive you were eligible for.
ie: $0.08 bet = no progressive, .18 = mini progressive, .38 = mini + minor, etc...
The bet multiplier (x1, x2, x3, x6, x10) just multiplied your wins. There was nothing extra advertised for doing it.
now the bet multiplier level determines how many symbols get a bonus payout for getting 5 of a kind.
ie: x1 = no 5 of a kind bonus, x2 = 5 of a kind payout bonus for one symbol, x3 = 2 symbols, etc
obviously, this gimmick is designed to encourage the player to bet more and it's working.
for this game, i usually see players play at least a x2 multiplier for a 5 OaK bonus on 1 symbol.
from the pic above, the player has selected all progressives (left side) and a x2 multiplier for increased payout for 5 OaK for 1 symbol (right side).
each additional game mechanic adds variance to the slot.
ie: free games, progressives, and now bonus payouts for betting higher multipliers
and (unfortunately) i find the additional variance fun.
When i see this game with a high mini or minor, i play it.
i only put in the amount equal to the progressive.
i choose the base bet level that corresponds to that progressive then i choose a x2 or x3 multiplier.
i quit when i hit the progressive, double my $ or go broke.
even though a majority of time i dont hit the progressive or even a 5 OaK, i am enjoying myself playing.
And yet, nobody gives you s*** like singleconVP claims happens anytime someone post about playing for entertainment.Quote: 100xOdds.

It certainly seems like all my worst luck has come playing the Chinese themed slots over the years even back before all these new versions has come out. If given a choice with everything being equal if I have to choose a slot I tend to avoid the Chinese themed slots. But if for any reason it's even slightly better to play one with the Chinese theme but I certainly would play that.
Of course, I have had some decent little handpays on Chinese themed slots as well.

I don't find many opportunities for sustained slot play, but the quest for variance is affecting all machine games. Recent interview:Quote: AxelWolfOf course, I have had some decent little handpays on Chinese themed slots as well.

Already many of the new vp games are structured with 5-coin payouts for 10-coin bets, so EV is below 50% without bonus features.Quote:CDC – What other trends do you see that could make video poker better in the future?
Darnell [Johnson, IGT VP Director] – The biggest trend we like is adding more volatility to the games. Many of our newest games validate that idea, so we are trying to continue to provide more volatile versions of poker and keno.
It never occurred to me that keno was insufficiently volatile. I pulled up the numbers for ordinary 8-spot keno with a 92% return. Top two jackpots contribute 31% to the return with frequencies of 6200 (7-hit) and 230k (8-hit). You could play many hours losing nearly 50% of coin-in. Newer implementations no doubt push returns below 50% for sustained intervals.
The likely result is more handpays and quicker bustouts. Recent tax changes are more hostile to handpays, but tax concerns don't seem to drive gambling decisions.
An 8 spot, screw that, I wouldn't even want to play for a 7 spot.Quote: HugoSlaviaI don't find many opportunities for sustained slot play, but the quest for variance is affecting all machine games. Recent interview:
