I am normally in the blackjack forum but, I just received $500.00 in free slots play. The casino is the Revel and they have slot machine denominations ranging from $.01 to $100.00 - as a non-slots player, do you have any advice on how I should play the $500.00 in free slots play?

If it's good for VP as well as slots, I'd find the best paytable I could at the $1 or $5 denomination and play it through that way. If it's slots only, then $5 or $25 reel slots.

Do I want to know how much BJ play got you this offer? :-)

If you want to hear about my run-in with horrific variance in blackjack - read story 1 and story 2

Be prepared to be depressed reading those :(

I'd suggest player a higher demonination machine, but not too high as if you are going 25 or 50 a spin you will likely either win nothing or if you do hit you will win 1200 and have to pay taxes on it. Also, remember to cash out as soon as you have cleared the 500. And might I suggest NOT taking the winnings to the Revel $100 blackjack table. Play blackjack somewhere else. Or maybe the third's time is the charm. One will never know (or maybe they will).

Could the 3rd time be the charm?

That's what I was hinting at but I'm afraid to give you ideas :p

I voted $1, but this assumes you can use it on some decent VP.

Nareed - I believe it is slots only - no VP

On a $1 per coin VP machine, that's 100 spins (assuming you cash out after running your free play through once).

If you are playing a machine with a 99% expected long term return (9/6 Jacks or Better, 8/5 Bonus) you stand a chance of cashing out $495. You also have a chance at hitting a royal for $4,000 or if you are the dark cloud of casino gamblers you have the unlikely chance of losing it all.

I would avoid traditional slots or video slots because you don't know what the expected return is.

If you have to play traditional slots I would suggest finding the highest possible denomination machine with the lowest jackpot and hope that this kind of machine is programmed to give you more "action." Then cash out each win as it comes.

Im also wondering if video blackjack machines qualify for this?

Missing from your survey is fifty cents video poker which is not a bad choice given a $500 bankroll. A royal with 50-cents per coin is $2,000.
