1700 players, and the pleasure is all mine.
Not quite the Christmas holiday I wanted in Vegas, but a good free substitute.
Good luck with that.
Congrats!
(Even though England has never beaten the USA in World Cup play ...)

:-) thankyou very much.
You always quote that whenever we talk, I am hoping we get chance to play again at the next world cup ;-)

Yeah, I probably over-quote it, but it's kinda all we have ......
My biggest MTT so far is only $300 buy in, so this is going to be something special. Biggest win over $20,000 but that was a while ago.
If any of you have advice, I would be glad to hear it.
As long as I don't bust out first or look like a tool I will be happy.
Rules on wearing advertising have really been tightend up. Be sure you are in compliance lest you have to cover up your, "moneymakers".

We're also the defending Olympic gold medalists in Rugby Union. You can hold that over all the Six/Tri-Nations' countries, England included. This will surely change once 7s comes back to the Olympics in 2016, however.
Congrats, WoE.

1924 is a long time ago :)
It's weird that Sevens Rugby didn't make it to the London Olympics. It's a perfect sport for the Olympics... a tournament can be held in a short time, plenty of nations play it and it's good fun to watch. Plus the home of Sevens (Melrose) is in the UK (if nowhere near London).
So many forms to fill out, and the website says all they need is your passport.
Get the feeling they dont want me to go
There were LOTS of forms. Among other things, if she finished in the money, a percentage would be returned to the league. I think it was 30%. We were fine with that sice they were putting up the $10K, as well as paying for our hotel room, gave us some branded clothing, and dinner with the league owner the night before.
Once we got to Foxwoods, there were additional forms that were required by Foxwoods when we bought in. One of the forms included a space to indicate sponsorship for split winnings on tax forms.
Prior to entering the room, the WPT wanted more forms filled out.
Perhaps you're getting all the forms at once.

It was a 6 day event. She was the last woman standing, out early on day three, just a couple hours short of the money. Sigh...
What she got out of it (besides the itch to play another big tourney) is that it's unlike any tourney she has ever played in. For one thing, the blind levels seem to last almost as long as an entire typical tourney - 90 minutes! And when they do go up, after the first few levels, they go up in very small increments.
It was two 90 minutes levels, then 20 minute break. I went to her on each break. The people at my poker table were pissed, but f- 'em. I was within the rules.
Bottom line, you don't need to be fearful of the clock the way you are in a normal tourney.
---
I hung out with her for a while. The first two days, spectators could walk all over the banquet room being used. It was kinda like a regular poker room. Just keep a respectable distance from live action. The third day they put up ropes.
After about an hour the first day, I left and went to the regular poker room.
I was surprised to see a LONG line of people to sign up for some tourney. We signed up for the $10K the night before, at a different counter. So I asked what they were signing up for. Yep. It was the $10K!
Man, if I was spending $10K, I'd get there on time!
Thank you for the story, was kind of what I am expecting so it's good to hear it from someone I trust.
Any cash would be fantastic, and while my expectations are realistic, I have to believe I can it or I'm just selling myself short. For the first day (if not the second too) I will be playing ultra tight, almost never out of position and choosing my spots carefully.
My friends told me to pretend I don't know who any of the big names are, and just behave like I am in casino back home, where my results are great.
I am looking forward to the interview with the hottie, but they only offer $1000 in expenses, which wont even cover the flight, I am going to offer to bunk in with the Royal Flush Girls, but I guess they have to share a bed anyway (at least in my head they do).
It's good advice.Quote: WizardofEnglandMy friends told me to pretend I don't know who any of the big names are, and just behave like I am in casino back home, where my results are great.
While I think the pros may have a better ability to read people, and might not make as many bad plays as a novice, they are subject to the whim of fate like everybody else.
About two hours after my wife started, word spread in the poker room than Men The Master was in the high limit room. I thought, "I wonder why he isn't playing in the tourney..." A few minutes later it hit me: He already busted out.
---
Is your tourney a re-buy event? In such a tourney, there are a lot of players that play very loose, hoping to catch some cards and build a stack, knowing they can re-buy if they get caught. They only play 'normal' after the re-buy period ends. The nice thing is, these players will also dump chips if they are short stacked as the end of the re-buy period approaches, in the hopes of busting out so that they CAN re-buy!
I'm sure you know this already, but when playing against stronger players you WANT variance. Don't let them grind you down. Be more aggressive than normal.

DJ - Its the $10,000 WPT event, I think you can rebuy on day two if you bust out on day one, but I wouldnt call it a rebuy in sense of the term.
Wiz - Thanks, I will take that on board. Assuming I amassed a chip lead of some sort, should I take my foot off the gas or continue?
I think you know the answer to that.Quote: WizardofEnglandAssuming I amassed a chip lead of some sort, should I take my foot off the gas or continue?
You might want to put those chips to work and gamble a little more than you would have if your stack was merely average, then again, you don't want to donk them off...
It's normal for 5 or 10 seconds to be considered a "long" decision in a typical tournament or cash game. Not so in a deep stack, long format tourney like the one you're in.
Best of luck.
First post on this page:Quote: sunrise089I'm a bit confused about the terminology in the first post. Did WoE win an event in Florida and is now in Vegas, or did he win something (online) that has sent him to Florida now?
Original post from last month:Quote: WizardofEnglandWell today's the day. Just over an hour to go. Any cash and I'll be in Vegas next week.
Quote: WizardofEnglandJust won a satellite to the WPT in Hollywood Florida, worth $11,000 on a freeroll.

It sounds like he won a trip to Florida. If he comes in the money, he's going to Vegas next week.
It's unclear, but I think that would be on his own, not part of any prize in the WPT event he's in today.
I won the seat, I will use my winnings to take the Vegas holiday I should of had at Christmas that was cancelled 'cus of snow
I'd hate to think you're using some of your break time to keep us up-to-date. Sure, update the family, but we can wait. FOCUS!
Ending the first day at or near the starting stack is NOT BAD. Sure, it could be better, but don't let it bother you. You're doing good.
Assuming your tourney is like the one my wife was in, at some point tonight, you'll be able to go online to find out your seat assignment for tomorrow. But more important, you'll be able to find out who else is at your table, what seat, their stack size, and do research to find out if any are professionals or have been in other major tourneys, and how they did.
Wish you more continued good luck!

HEY!Quote: WizardofEnglandThat's some good advice. 40 mins of this level left then day two
What the hell did I just get done telling you?
FOCUS!
Yeah, I know...
Wiz -
How about providing your real name, and a link on the WPT site where we can track your progress.
That way, you can, I don't know.... FOCUS!
By the way, I'm just busting your chops, but your name and a link WOULD make things easier.
My real name is David Lawrence.
I'm currently 151st of about 300. Almost perfect average stack of 33,375.
My table draw for day two is ok I think, I have chip leader, and the heads up champ, but the rest are mostly no names or average (like me)
On the wpt website, live updates I am on the last but one page of day one.
Major hands; I limped under the gun with pocket 4's got 6 callers. Flop came 4-J-x
I lead out for 75% of the pot. Everyone folds except guy to my left. Who is on tilt. Turn comes blank. I bet, he calls. River comes case 4. I check he bets, I raise 3x he folds AJ face up. I collect the pot and muck.

No shit! Really? My full name is David Lawrence Miller!Quote: WizardofEnglandMy real name is David Lawrence.
The only thing I found was this page, WPT Updates, which shows the 290 remaining players, chip stacks, seat assignment, and some reports about some hands in Level 5.
For the record, the bookmarks I have about my wife's tourney, from November 2009, no longer work. They now bring me to the WPT home page.
Sigh. I found it.Quote: DJTeddyBearI could not find a page with your story on it.
At the bottom of the page are page number links. I hadn't seen those before.
Wiz / Dave Lawrence's story, and photo, is towards the bottom of page 3.
WoE is out. I hesitated to report, hoping the info I was looking at was wrong, or at least waiting to see if there would be a report of the hand that got him.
At about 7:30 I noticed that he was down to an estimated 20,000 chips. With the blinds at 500 / 1000 with 100 ante. A few minutes later, he was out.
Dave -
We feel your pain.
Hopefully, there will be a next time.
What was/were the key hands?
I note from the photo on the website, that you had a WPT patch on your shirt for day 1. Did they compensate you for wearing it?
ClubWPT is his sponsor - he won the $10K entry fee from them.
Quote: DJTeddyBearRead the story with the photo.

I understand how he got the seat, but was he obligated to wear the patch as part of the deal? Typically, advancing players who might be on the TV broadcast are offered compensation to wear patches, hats, badges, etc.
Quote: FinsRuleDid he cash?
According to the website only the top 45 will finish in the money. But by winning the seat, in a sense, WoE was already a winner.

I don't know the agreement that WoE signed, but I can see him having to wear a patch and them taking pictures of him while he's playing, whether he gets on TV or not, to promote their site and that "people really win" on their site.
