Quote: FTBI meant to pick up her book The Biggest Bluff when I first heard about it and read an excerpt which was interesting. I am going to get the book now that I am reminded of it.
I read it a couple months back and recommend it.
as she said in the interview, poker is a game of incomplete information just like in life.Quote: VladAlex1https://www.tvo.org/video/is-poker-a-metaphor-for-life?utm_source=TVO&utm_campaign=435680a068-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_1_17_2019_10_56_COPY_01&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_eadf6a4c78-435680a068-24197713

Make your best decision you can based on the information you have.
I've been playing poker in casinos for years.
No idea how to carry that into real life.
Or if I have, no idea how I did it nor what carried over

I am guessing that you have carried it over fairly well. I assume getting busted at the table is equivalent to death in life. You are not busted until you die.

One point she made that stuck in my mind was how people are too resistant to "folding" (e.g. selling a stock, quitting a job, ending a relationship). There's a tendency to delude oneself and think the probability of a change for the better is higher than it really is.

Sounds like a variation on the endowment effect. Or maybe “irrational exuberance”.

That is one of the reasons I quit picking my own stocks. I kept too many of my mistakes, convinced the public was mistaken, not me.

A pretty smart man said: the market can stay irrational longer than you can stay solvent.

I believe the key to life is knowing when to cut your losses. Far too many of my friends stuck it out in disappointing relationships or stayed in a job or career long after they should.
