Also if enough people live in Las Vegas maybe we can start our own WoV poker game every week. Unfortunately I live in a small area so I'm unable to host it.
Live game sounds even better, but can't swing it from where I live. I think a live game during the next WOV meetup would be great.
Quote: MidwestAPI know the question is for the Wiz, but I'd be in for a bovada game with other WOV members if there is an interest. I'd prefer a tournament, but cash game is good too.

On another board that I used to frequent, we did a weekly poker tournament that was part of a season. We had prizes for the top 3 finishers. The weekly tournament was free but there was an entry fee for the season. Each season lasted about 12 weeks. It was a lot of fun. I would be willing to host something like this if there was any interest.

That sounds interesting. Depending on the fee I would be in.

I would be up for a live game once a month or so even if we just had to play it at a casino.

I remember tringlomane used to play at the Orleans when he came by which had great mixed games. I am down for HORSE, I'm not a shark by any means but would enjoy playing many different games instead of just HE. As I've said I live in a fairly small house so I can't host a game but if this is a good alternative I am in.
I don't know how Bovada works but I don't mind looking up how to open a private game, maybe a small charge which goes to WoV as a donation.

I think if you set up private tables online, that would draw the most interest from the membership here. Unfortunately, I can only play online on the Nevada sites.
Quote: djatcLet's set something up soon. I am interested in online tournaments if we can find software everyone can use.
Yes, set it up, I am in, let me know when it is ready.
Would also be interested in live game, if it coordinated with one of my trips to vegas
I did look into a few sites, I thought it would be fun to play a video game style platform like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZwYSaix7PSs.Quote: AlembertIf we can set up an internet game, I am in. Perhaps something like full tilt, free poker, we settle offline.

As far as live goes, I'm liking the Orleans for their mixed games, but I'm not sure if paying rake in a live casino would be economical. Also I don't know if you can request a private table anyway. Another issue is if we get lots of people flying in then they probably would like to stay on the strip. I don't play on the strip so I don't know of any mixed games there, let alone one that will let us sit a bunch of us.
Alternatively you could just do a fake money tournament and escrow funds w/ someone trustworthy. You'd have to find a site where it's not against the ToC.
Anyway I may be interested, especially if the buy in is around 30-40 dollars.
not everyone can get a BV account. There are plenty of free to play sites aroundQuote: Boney526Uhmmm.... Bovada? Just because I'm sure there are more accounts there. Just have everyone reveal themselves I guess.

Quote: thlfPokerstars.net has fake money home games.
that is what I used.
the rake and tipping cuts in.Quote: rudeboyoiId be willing to play live at the orleans. Another option is red rocks poker room. I'm 100% certain they would be willing to set a game up for us there.
Quote: AxelWolfthe rake and tipping cuts in.
Orleans has cheaper rake. They do $3+$1. Red rock is $4+$1. If its a mixed game then there's no $1 drop just inelligible for promotions.
Quote: GWAEthat is what I used.
OK I'll look into pokerstars, and wed have to go on an honor system for collecting funds, which shouldn't be a problem here because of the integrity of the members. Or we can escrow beforehand. Preferably I would like the wizard to get a % of the action, kind of like an ongoing donation. Perhaps the winner of sveral tourneys can meet the wizard for dinner with a comp or something I dunno. I don't mind providing modest dining comps if I can get them.
As for live games, I really don't want to pay the seat time if this is a friendly game. The best case scenario is to have somebody who can host a weekly game and pay a break in dealer or something. As Axel mentioned rake and tips will make the game unsustainable and ruin the spirit of the game I feel.

I def can get a dealer if someone has a place to host the game.
Unfortunately not enough locals seem interested in a home game. It would probably have to be during Wovcon or somethingQuote: rudeboyoiI def can get a dealer if someone has a place to host the game.

Just FYI, we did play poker at Binion's during WoVCon #1 in June 2011. It was a 1/2 limit hold-em game, I think. The Wizard had checked things out in advance, and we filled all but one seat at the table with our group. That was the only time I have ever played poker in Las Vegas and one of about 4 times I have played since the 1970s. Lost a grand total of $10.

Quote: beachbumbabsI would be in for some kind of game, whether live or online. I was to the point when this thread first got started that I had begun to make a free home game site for us on pokerstars, which has exactly what we're looking for. EXCEPT, the terms and conditions make it pretty clear (unless they're just trying to indemnify themselves and don't really enforce it), that they don't want to be used for a cash game in any way, shape, or form, including escrowed funds, pre-arranged values, or any other arrangement discussed above. YMMV. Not sure how far they'd take enforcement beyond banning us all from the site, but it seemed possible they'd take it as far as causing a legal problem for the participants.
that is all just legal mumbo jumbo to be safe under the UIEGA.
Quote: rudeboyoiCan you setup private play money tournaments online? A tournament format would prob be best for online.
Through pokerstars you can

So maybe do something like. Someone escrows the money. $100 entry fee. 10% gets donated to wizard. 10% for 3rd place. 30% goes to 2nd place. 50% goes to 1st place.
one thing at a time.
Quote: rainmanWe should just set up a game on poker stars play a tourney for free and let it evolve from there. Baby steps guys

Is it easy for US players to get on a play money poker stars tourney? If so I am leaning towards trying out some mixed game tourneys.

I played play money for about 2 or 3 hours the other day...so yeah, you can play for play money pretty easy. But if you don't have play money chips, you won't be able to play "higher stakes" unless you win them or buy them. I could transfer maybe 10k to you if you like; I forget what the daily limit is now.
Also winning is not as easy as it used to be, because they rake play money cash games too...lol

I played a hyper turbo play money 6max. Got heads up, raise 97 OTB, flop 2 pair (97s) against K8os and get runner runnered K and 8.... just like the real game!
How about this "Home Games" thing. Can I set up a league and just invite everyone here?

Yes, I would think so. My screenname is Vman96 on there.

Yes, you can. People can also buy play chips very cheaply. I paid $25 for 7.5million in chips last week, which was way more than I needed, it turns out, but who knew? You can use those chips for any free game. Or you can play in; I think you get 1000/day. You can only have one account, though.
Anything we set up, we can post a buy-in amount, choose the games, set stakes, set a clock for the antes, set a timer for decisions, all kinds of stuff. Home games, private tournaments, all that stuff.
I read something, but don't know the details, about how people can give play money to each other. If that's correct, I'll be happy to stake a bunch of people so they don't have to buy in, at least to start.
FWIW, the twoplustwo home league on Stars' games are like 1+.1 play chips (that's right, Stars rakes .1 play chip lol.) So there's no need for that in a league if you start it.
I'd be interested if I can fit it in my schedule and if there's some good prize waiting for me when I win :-)
I didn't read the whole thread, but I will later as I'm sleep deprived and starving, but were we thinking of escrowing money to someone and playing with a decent buy in? Or just for fun?
EDIT: I'll be in tonight's 1.50+.15 Stud8 turbo SMPO event on Bovada for kicks tonight, as I'm skipping my usual tournament schedule (sleep deprived poker at the stakes I usually play is a bad, bad idea.) Should be fun, so if anyone else who's in wants to can ask what number I am so you can make fun of my horrible play haha.
Season was 12 weeks
we had a schedule pre set, we alternated tuesday and wednesday nights.
We also used 7, 8, 9, and 10 eastern time in a rotation.
You were given points based on finish and final table.
We had 34 people in the league so if all 34 people played in it first place would get 34 points and last place would get 1 point. If you made the final table you received extra points.
Only your top 10 results were counted. We did this so you don't get penalized for missing a week.
We had a lot of payouts for different things. They were probably not all necessary but it is what was voted on.
The buy in was $100 for the entire season
Top 2 finishers each week received a small payout.
End of season top 3 finishers got money
We also gave a bonus for anyone who played all 12 weeks. I checked each table to make sure they didn't register and not show up.
We all enjoyed the league and will be doing it again in the winter. In order for something like this to work you have to have at least 20 people. Again, if there was interest I would be willing to run it.
Quote: gts4everI'll likely be moving out to Vegas within a couple of months. I'd definitely be down for live games weekly or monthly. If I wind up in an apartment with enough space, I'd be open to hosting.
That would be awesome. I can get 3 members here interested as well as the wizard. We talked about doing home games but nobody has a place to host.
Standard Texas holdem would be best to start off with. I prefer money be sent before the start. Just a suggestion but I would try to restrict it to members who have been here for at least a few weeks.
I can see all kinds of problems if a flock of new people sign up.

Being in Tampa, interested in an online tournament or cash game. No limit TX holdem. Would also consider limit.
As for trust, deposit required (maybe to the Wiz) unless you have participated in other action here and was honest. Such as last years football contest, all members that paid off the winner(including me) would be trusted members. Paid off a mcgnugget challenge bet, trusted. Actually any bet started here by long time members( at least a year) that was eventually settled. For example Mosca can vouch that I lost 2 bets to him this year and paid off. My Maryland Women's Basketball lost to Notre Dame twice.
added edit - donated to the Wiz (I donated) therefore trusted member.

League Idea sounds like a lot of fun. May be more practical to start off with a couple unrelated games though, just to establish true interest and dedicated players. Either way, please count me in.

Possibility for hosting: I am in Vegas Sun-Thurs every 2-4 weeks this year. I always end up having extra comp rooms booked. Just an empty hotel room and a couple folding tables and chairs gives us a viable place to host a game.
