Quote: MidwestAPIs anyone playing the WSOP this year? I'm debating about making the trip this year. I have done so twice before, playing three lower level buy-in events and also trying to satellite my way to the main, but with no success.
My buddy and collaborator, Al, is headed down Thursday. But he just plays the cash games. Traditionally, the cash games are very good the first couple of weeks of the WSOP. He's comped into Boulder Station. He'll be back in mid-June and we have another road trip planned.
I haven't been to a WSOP since they moved it out of the Horseshoe.
Quote: strictlyAPim here , playing some smaller buy ins nothing more then 3k, I have an extra room at cosmo if you are stuck
I appreciate the offer, but not sure I'm even coming out yet. The buy-in's you are playing are generally in the same level I enter. Good luck! If you are comfortable with it, keep us posted on your results or any interesting stories.
Quote: djatcOne of my dreams is to Moneymaker my way into a WSOP win. As per my anonymity clause I will be wearing a Burger King mask during all entries.
Four years ago I made my way up the steps on Pokerstars. Winner of Step 7 got a WSOP main event package including flights/hotel.
First hand I get Aces in the big blind. Button raises 3bb. I repop him 3x the pot. He shoves. I call.
My Ace of Spades and Ace of Clubs up against King of Clubs and King of Diamonds.
Flop was 2s3d4d
Turn was 5d giving me the straight.
River was Queen of Diamonds giving him the flush.
I was less than pleased.

Also, if I win the employees event we will have a night on the town with all of you invited. Each one gets one drink and one autogtraphed picture with me :)
Quote: TomspurI plan on playing in the $500 empoyee tournament next year. My bud came in 37th this year. As I doubt I can ever sit down at the main event, I'm more than happy to sit down at the employees event.

Can I trade the picture for a 2nd drink?
Quote: GWAECan I trade the picture for a 2nd drink?
The picture might be worth something someday, the drink will give you a 5 minute buzz......
Your choice :)

If I had enough drinks, which, after winning $85k in a poker tournament seems highly likely then you can call me Susan if it makes you happy :)

If I remember correctly, at Stripsteak in Mandalay Bay, they have a $4000 glass of scotch that sounds quite good.

Now you are assuming I have the party at Stripsteak at MB.....I could have it at Casino Royale too :)
I'll see if I can borrow DJs burger king mask...
Quote: AxiomOfChoiceOh, the drink has to be at your party? I thought I could just buy a drink and send you the bill...

So what you are saying is that you would rather celebrate on your own than honoring an invite to a fellow forum members "breaking out and winning $85k" party?

Hey, I said, I'd get the mask.
Quote: AxiomOfChoiceHey, I said, I'd get the mask.
Thanks. Now all I have to do is win a tournament with, historically about 850 employees that partake....
Piece of cake :)

Better odds than hitting a royal.
Quote: mickeycrimmI took a look at the cash games at the WSOP last night on Bravo Poker. The O8 games were going strong. At least a few at every limit, 10-20, 20-40, 40-80, 75-150. I'm following it to see if its just a few days thing around the Omaha events or if it continues. Al wanted me to go down with him. I turned him down. He's in Jackpot today. He gets comped in there. But heading to Vegas tomorrow. If I knew the cash game Omaha 8 was gonna be that strong I probably would have went. I'm gonna keep tracking it on Brave Poker. If it holds up I might go down next year.
O8 is my favorite and strongest game. We don't get a game going around here at all anymore. This is one game that took a hit on black friday.

I played the Millionaire Maker and shelled out the $1500 to play. Wanted to play one WSOP Bracelet Event in my lifetime. Also managed to video my Milly Maker experience which included some hidden camera coverage of my play. Enjoy! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CSFFld-r2Dw
Tons of open face chinese pineapple too.
Quote: tringlomaneO8 has definitely looked stronger than last year via bravo. But it's possible I am looking at times around o8 events like Mickey said.

It looks like the O8 will be strong today too. Al is still in Jackpot. He takes U.S. Hwy. 93 straight south out of Montana all the way to Las Vegas. He always stops in Jackpot as he is comped in there. He has a Triple Play dollar NSUD play there with a .4% card and tons of freeplay. Yesterday he told me that he invited his casino host to stay with him at Boulder Station. The casino host wants to play a WSOP event.
Al has some more freeplay that will kick in at midnight tonite then he will take off for Las Vegas. He is a super strong O8 player and will be heading straight for the 40-80 game. I'll get reports and keep you guys posted.

Isn't there any free junket flights to Vegas out of Great Falls or Harloton or Two Dot or some other Big Sky Metropolis? Some place where the sheep arn't nervous? [yeah right, like there is place like that in Montana] How bout Butte?
Come on down, the weather is fine.

Allegiant has non-stop flights between Great Falls and Las Vegas a couple days a week. The same thing with Billings, Missoula and Butte. They have flight/hotel packages. We get the Wendover flights too.
I'm pretty happy in my little Montana home. But watching the cash game O8 at the WSOP on Bravo is giving me the itch. The wheels are clicking in my head. I think I'm gonna plan to go down next year and sit in the O8 games, railbird some events, and even play a $1500 event just to say I played a WSOP event.
Oh, yeah, and the sheep? That's a North Dakota, Minnesota thing. They just blame it on the Montanans.

The biggest gamble of all during my WSOP Millionaire Maker participation was to get busted videotaping live hands. That would have led to my elimination from the tourney. Glad you found it interesting.

When you were all in and doubled up with 9s, what did your opponent have? 2 paint cards? I couldn't tell. But your phone takes pretty good video!

My opponent went all in with AK and my 99 held up when low cards were dealt during the flop, turn, and river. That hand propelled me to Day 2 when I doubled-up off that hand in the last level (level 9) of Day 1.

Cool! Eventually I will try a $1500 event someday, hopefully 2-7 Triple Draw or a mix game, if I survive Day 1, that would be a good start!
Any concerns they find this and ban you from future events or the properties?Quote: JSTATI played the Millionaire Maker and shelled out the $1500 to play. I can't control the WSOP's reaction from my video. Hope the WSOP brass found my enthusiasm from playing the Milly Maker entertaining, and will refrain from taking action. Since this was the only event I will ever play, a lifetime ban from WSOP Events will not effect me.

Thanks for sharing, good stuff!
Quote: slytherBe careful, you said "I'll call all in" That could be problematic if others were in the hand, which obv wasn't the case here.
yeah I thought the same thing but couldn't see the other persons chip stack well. I couldn't tell if his call happened to put him all in or if he was raising to an all in.
Quote: GWAEyeah I thought the same thing but couldn't see the other persons chip stack well. I couldn't tell if his call happened to put him all in or if he was raising to an all in.
You guys are right, I should have shoved saying only "all in". My opponent had $7,825 vs. my $8,850, so I had him covered. This win allowed me to pick up a few blinds from the button and wound up ending Day 1 with $25,300.
