Mohegan Sun CT adopts Bad Beat Jackpot

Kinda sad.

One of the reasons I preferred Mohegan Sun over Foxwoods was that Mohegan had a high-hand jackpot that paid every 4 hours. You could look around the room and say to yourself, "Every few hours, one of these people is gonna win about a thousand bucks. Might as well be me." And with only a hundred or so people, the odds were a lot better than a bad beat that pays once every few months....

I concur with your reasoning, the high hand jackpot every four hours would have made for a much more enjoyable game, to me. Did you have to be present to win?

I once qualified about an hour in with quads (sixes, i think) but got beat out when there was less than 5 minutes left.

No, you don't have to be there. When you qualify, they take your info and ask if you'll still be around or be here later or whatever. If you're leaving, they'll contact you and ask if they should hold it or mail it.

That's pretty cool, then. I thought they would require you to be there, because then that would keep the player playing in the Poker Room longer, and thus infinitesimally increasing the rake as opposed to if the player were to leave.

Either way, that is a really cool promo, and I think it could (possibly) contribute to some players holding marginal hands pre-flop, such as low pairs against people betting strong...when they probably shouldn't be holding said pairs...which again would infinitesimally contribute extra $$$ to the rake. Maybe even low suited cards hoping to flop a decent straight flush draw, I know people who play that way saying, "I'd hate to miss a bad beat jackpot," and even then you have to count on someone else having a hand of a certain value. With this, you just need the best hand!
