SPANISH 21
Dealer shows a 2.
Why is basic strategy to double a 4-card 10 but hit a 4-card 11?
I thought 11 was better than 10.

Spanish 21 pays a 3-2 bonus if you get 21 with five cards - if you don't double (or split). I assume this is the main reason for not doubling on a 4-card 11 against a 2.

Yes and by that same logic you should just hit a 4-card ten. But the chart says double with Less than 5 cards. Confusing.

It`s easier to make 21 from a total of 11 than a total of 10.

There is 1 rank that gets you a 21 from 10 (8%). There are 3 ranks that get you a 21 from 11 (25%).
Those 3 ranks that get you from 10 to 20 are more valuable when your bet is doubled. Add in the 9 and Ace, and the reasonable chance of a dealer bust...
May the cards fall in your favor.

Not when you hit twice, i.e. deciding not to double.

Maybe just maybe.... the edge we give up by not doubling 11 is made up by the fact that 21 doesn't push?
