Hi there, I am a dealer at a new casino in the Seattle area and I was wondering about the odds on a promotion we are doing. Several times a day, we give out lottery style scratch tickets with 30 squares on them, and guests are told to scratch off six squares. If more than six squares are scratched the card is void.

Each card contains EXACTLY 6 stars and an assortment of other symbols.

If they find four stars, they win $25
If they find five stars, they win $500
The jackpot for finding 6/6 stars is $100,000

On one of my breaks I figured the odds to win the jackpot at about 1:597,000 (close to that, I can't remember the exact number)

Can someone help me figure the odds to win the four or five star prizes? We've been running this for several days now and have had one $500 winner, today we had three $25 winners while I was on shift.

Thanks!

Out of the 593775 differant ways to scratch , 4140 will have 4 stars, 144 will have 5,and 1will have 6. Each card is worth about 46.4 cents. I only got 1 star when I was there Sunday afternoon.

I am guessing the cards must be immediately scratched in front of the player's club or else the odds might drastically change if as little as a flash light can see through them. Otherwise, this may be costly if it is not entirely fool proof.

They are your standard scratch ticket type card. No way to see through them as far as I could tell. You scratched them at the table game table.

Great time for a Keno Calculator!

http://www.betstarter.com/lottery/KenoOdds.asp

This is the equivalent of the player picking six numbers, with six numbers drawn out of thirty total numbers:

Catch 4: 1:143.4
Catch 5: 1:4123.4
Catch 6: 1:593775

EV: (1/143.4 * 25) + (1/4123.4 * 500) + (1/593775 * 100000) = x

x = $0.4640106340173691
