They have the worst audio of any podcast I listen too.

A lot of times it’s because they are interviewing someone over the phone, which will always sound super compressed.

Other broadcasters have cleared up similar problems by using Skype instead of phones, I am told.

Yea, any kind of voip or WiFi calling is much better. I think they do Skype occasionally, I just assume the bad sounding interviews are via phone out of convenience for the guest.
Not sure what is up with Bob’s echo though, that one is new.

They use 20 year old equipment. They should instead invest in a new mic which costs about $100 and he will sound 10x better.
