This posting is for the benefit of a friend who reads this board.
There is some confusion among beginners, and even some advanced players about the horn bet and the C&E bet.
First, they BOTH suck!

The odds are often listed as follows:
Horn bet
27:4 for 2 or 12;
3:1 for 3 or 11

The straight horn bet is placed in increments of 4.
The bet is divided into four equal parts of 1 unit each on 2,3,11,12.
The bet is for the next single roll.

If the 2 is rolled the player will be paid at 30:1 on the 1 unit on the 2.
The other three units will be lost.
The winning unit wager will remain active unless requested to be returned..
So after this wager the player has netted 27 units
The same applies for rolling a 12.
This is how the odds are listed 27:4.

If the 3 is rolled the player will be paid at 15:1 on the 1 unit on the 3.
The other three units will be lost.
The winning unit wager will remain active unless requested to be returned.
After this wager the player has netted 12 units.
The same applies for rolling 11.
12:4 is equal to 3:1

The house edge on the total wager is 12.5%

The C&E bet
3:1 for 2,3, or 12
7:1 for 11

This also a single roll wager.
The simple C&E wager is two units.
One unit is bet on any craps (2,3,12) and one unit is bet on 11.

The any craps wager pays 7:1 as does the C portion of this wager.
The winning wager will remain active unless requested to be returned.
A roll of 2,3, or 12 will net 6 units.
The other unit on the eleven loses.
6:2 is equal to 3:1.

A roll of 11 will be paid at 15:1 on the unit on the 11.
The winning wager will remain active unless requested to be returned.
A roll of 11 will net 14 units.
The wager on the craps will lose.
14:2 is equal to 7:1.

The house edge on the total wager is 11.11%

Were you to wager a $4 horn Your probabilities are:
5.56% chance of winning $27 (roll of 2 or 12)
11.11% chance of winning $12 (roll of 3 or 11)
83.33% chance of losing $4 (roll of 4,5,6,7,8,9,10)

Were you to wager a $4 C&E your probabilities are:
5.56% chance of winning $28 (roll of 11)
11.11% chance of winning $12 (roll of 2 or 3 or 12)
83.33% chance of losing $4 (roll of 4,5,6,7,8,9,10)

You can see that the C&E bet is slightly better.
It has a little bit higher payoff and a slightly lower edge.
You can also make the bet for $2 as opposed to $4 for the horn.

as long as Super 7 (Red Rooster y'all) is not involved, OK, else its a World of craps, and Scrambled Eggs, and Chicken Salad.
Some people need to reimagine their thinking.

Super 7 is unmentionable. Simply say Big Red.
Red Rooster.... unheard of but they will eventually decipher it.
Scrambled Eggs ????
Chicken Salad ???

Horn Bet: a way to make four bad bets simultaneously while annoying the dealers.

I've learned so much new craps lingo since I joined this forum. On my upcoming trip to Vegas, I am going to call out "one dollar for a big dick!" at least once...possibly more times. I always avoid hard ways like the plague, but I'm paying that house edge in this case for extreme entertainment. Perhaps even mix in a "dealers on big dick!" Although that might start getting a little disrespectful, especially if there are female dealers.

I was there from the 1st to the 6th - sorry I missed this post before I left. Trip report coming, although there's not that much to report.

They call Hard-10 "A lady's best friend", not "big dick", at least at a mixed table....

I always call it "Dos Equis for Becky". Whenever it comes up, I think of her.

With the advent of modern medicine, and its helpful little aids, some have started to use the word Viagara 4, 6, 8, 10 for those hard ways.
