I'm aware that one-roll bets such as bets on 2, 12, 3, 11, horn bets, world bets, etc., are sucker bets bets because of the outrageous house advantage attached to them. But if you bet them occasionally for a dollar or two then it could be fun to play them in the unlikely event you hit. A few months ago in a casino in West Virginia, I made a horn bet for $4 and and 11 (yo) came in. They paid me $12 for the win. I told the dealer that 11 was marked as 15-to-1 and therefore they owe me $16, not $12 because I get $15 for my 15-to-1 bet and and one dollar more for my original bet on 11. The dealer, a young woman, pleaded with me to accept the payoff because she said, very pointedly, that she could not give more than the $12. This meant to me that her job was in jeopardy, if I did not accept the payout they were giving me. I accepted the $12 payout, but soon left in disgust. A month or two later a similar situation happened in Atlantic City. What gives?
The bets are clearly marked right on the table: 30-to-1 for 2 and 12; 15-to-1 for 3 and 11. Why the welching?

It's not welching. It is the normal payout.
She probably "pleaded" because it was easier than properly explaining it to you.
Most craps players will keep a bet up after it wins.
The horn bet for $4 is actually four $1 bets. The Yo pays $15, but the other three bets lost. You only collect $12 so that $3 can replace the three losing bets.
You could have asked her to take it down, then you would have gotten the correct $15 payoff, plus the $1 bet. (Or $12 plus $4, depending on your point of view.)

is it 15 to 1 or 15 for 1? If it's 15 to 1, he rakes 15 + 1, his original bet - the 3 he lost = 13. If it's "for 1" then 12 is correct.Quote: CalderThe other three bets lost.

On second thought, if you said that, she should have given you the $16, and taken the bet down.Quote: BrooklynJakeI told the dealer ... I get $15 for my 15-to-1 bet and and one dollar more for my original bet on 11.
What you probably didn't notice, in both casinos, is that your horn bet stayed up for one more roll.
Is it possible that you complained after the next (losing) roll?

A $4 horn bet pays:
$30 - 3 = $27 on the 2 and 12. The -3 is because the other three bets lose.
$15 - 3 = $12 on the 3 and 11.
And the bet stays up, which is customary everywhere.
If you request that the bet comes down, they will take the $4 off the bets and pay you $4.
No welching.

Dealers are told to keep the bets up unless you specifically say to bring them down. She was replacing the four $1 bets.

It's been some months since then and I can't remember whether or not my horn bet was taken down. I think you're right - it probably wasn't. I'll have to watch that in the future.
