I was at Harrah's New Orleans last spring and played a video craps game. It was a multiplayer game with 5 or 6 player screens and a large center screen (like multiplayer video blackjack setup). After placing bets on touch screen, the "shooter" gets control of virtual dice, can rotate and set them to whatever dice set one wants, then "rolls" them by swiping your hand forward on the screen. (or if you like, touching the dice, twirling them in circles simulating throwing motion, then releasing them as hand goes forward).
Has anybody seen this game in Vegas? Sorry, I do not know the official name or manufacturer (e.g. Video Craps, Virtual Craps, ???).
Note: this is all video, not like the "Rapid Craps" at Bill's where the betting is on screen, but they still have dealers and actual dice.
Thanks

My apologies, this appears to have been discussed some in this other thread (not sure how to link yet, still learning my way around forum)

Sounds like Shufflemaster is the one I played in New Orleans, but it is still being shown at expos trying to get into places in Vegas.

now that is hilarious!

That it was. And yet a couple hours of low limit craps ($1 min bet) and more than a couple cocktails, and damned if I wasn't on board the Flying-V along with everybody else at the game. A victim of peer pressure I guess.

Harrah's in Cherokee, NC (the Cheorkee Indian casino) had one when I was there in late 2009. It was gone when I went back a couple months ago, but this may be temporary as they were in the midst of a big expansion. As I recall, it allowed double odds. (For those who haven't been there, everything is on video terminals. They have blackjack tables, but all the play is via video monitors.)
The dice rolling mechanism you describe was on these machines, and it may have been there to accommodate the NC law that requires games to have an element of skill. I have no earthly idea whether setting and rolling the dice affected the actual roll, however.

I don't think that you can completely automate these games. It costs a lot money to invest in the equipment, and the drop goes down. The key seems to keep adding automation to the games to help speed up some aspects of the games without totally automating the game.

The game I played was completely automated, with TITO
So I assume you mean you can't be successful with completely automated games for the reasons you mention. That may be. I guess the question is do the casinos save enough eliminating dealers salaries, etc. and running them 24/7/365 like slots?? The video blackjack multiplayer arrangements have been around for a while. I wonder if there is any data on how successful those are?
Personally, I never play the video blackjack one, but the video craps one was surprising fun for low rolling with a couple of friends...Since my New Orleans trip was not really a gambling trip, it was maybe more of a fun diversion, and would not be as fun in Vegas with real options available.

I've often mentioned my quest for low minimum craps tables. For that reason, I was eager to try RapidCraps. Although I didn't like it, I'd be willing to try video craps, if the limits are low, and it pays correct payouts for fractional bets.

The game I played had $1 min and did pay off in cents the correct payouts. Nice thing for me personally was being able to do things like place the 6 and 8 for $1 or buy 4 and 10 for $1 each and not get cheated. (Oh I am sure I came up on the short end of rounding that last penny, but that's how you roll when you're living large...)

Sweet! That's exactly what I'm talking about.

Try not to trip over the red carpet they roll out when you show up! LOL
Funny though, I'm too cheap for that, so I'd be betting my 6/8 in 6¢ units!

They are made by Shufflemaster, however it's a "Vegas Star Gaming" subsidary I believe..
They have one at Black Oak Casino in Sonora, CA. (Actually Toulemne, but close enough)
When I first played it, I absolutely made a KILLING..but then I went back and I got KILLED...just a RNG programmed into it, not much different than an actual dice table.

Yep, they had one at my local for a while: $1 minimum with 3x4x5x odds. I played $1 with max odds every throw and did not have one winning session. Just a complete beatdown.
Then they raised the minimum to $5, so I don't play anymore. That's money I won't be getting back (from that machine, anyway).
Edit: far less entertaining than live craps.

Would you guys who have played video craps say it is more entertaining than live craps or less, overall?

No question live craps is more entertaining.
But if you start looking at the cost of entertainment, I would put the $1 video craps I played as more entertaining than some $1 slot machine.
Now if only we could bring back the days of live quarter craps at the Silver City (I think). And I don't mean quarter as in $25 green chip, I mean actual quarter, i.e. 25 cent chips.

I have never played video craps, but I did see it at a (now-closed) California tribal casino just across the state line from Yuma. I expressed my (perhaps irrational) reservations about this game in this post. I don't think I would find video craps very entertaining though some day I will give Rapid Craps a try.
