Just found this out so wanted to see how fast someone would have the answer.

You can vote too, vote for more than one if you like.

Here it is, NO Looking it up!

If you look at the number on the face of a die, why should you know what is on the opposite side automatically?

Opposites sides of the die add up to 7.

I thought everybody knew.

Thank you.

So, seriously, doesn't everyone know that?

Ask a more intriguing question like how to tell the difference between left-handed and right-handed dice. The answer was posted on rec.gambling.craps milliennia ago, but it has apparently been lost in the mists of time.

I'm just guessing that this is what you are referring to: Look at the point where the 1, 2, and 3 faces come together or the point where the 4, 5, and 6 faces come together. Every pair of dice I am familiar with, these points have the 3 numerals appearing in order counter-clockwise (or left handed.)

Do they actually make dice in the opposite orientation?

Here is a tougher one (as usual, no internet searching):

If I am looking down on a die with the "six" face up, and the pips in two vertical columns, what two numbers will be on the left and right faces?

Just for amusement, take a look at the home page for Casino City. If it shows up on your screen as it does on mine, there is an ad for American Casino Guide down low on the left. Look closely at the dice pictured in that ad!

You'll see the same thing on the die directly below the Casino City name at the top left of the page... a die with a 4 adjacent to a 3.

I had to look at a die to see; a 'one' was not possible, but conceivably a set of two from 2, 3, 4, or 5 arranged so they add up to 7, that much was certain. By convention it evidently is only the one set [since I looked I won't answer].
