Hey guys,

I was wondering if you guys hedge your match play to guarantee a win or just roll with it? Im given a 100 match which can be broken up to 25x4, 50x2, or all at once.

What would you guys do?

Thanks!

I don't hedge, but here are various expectations for coupons including match plays.

It’s easier to hedge with a partner. You bet $ and match play and your partner bets the hedge side. However, the casino employees are aware of these types of team hedges.

My friend once got a $500 match play offer by mistake and he never bets more than $25. So he ended betting $500 with the $500 match play (on Banker) and his “confederate” bet $750 (Player) at baccarat.

If the hand was a tie, then both banker and player bets push and wait until a Player or Banker win.
If the Banker won, the Banker bet wins $1,000 less commission and lose $750 Player bet.
If the Player won, the Player bet wins $750 and loses the $500 and match play.
In either case is a net $250 win less commission or a net $250 win.

In Craps, you could bet on the Pass Line with match play and your partner bets on the Don’t Pass Line and to complete the hedge, you also need to bet on the Box car.

There are so many ways to hedge with a partner at Craps, e.g. Come & Don’t Come (with box car hedge) or using the Odds bets, etc.

All at once. Puts you in the proper mood and if it wins, you feel great.

Thought about just going for it too. Coming from a minimum pass line guy with the 6 and 8 placed as well I may have a heart attack lol

They wont kick you out

I have had dealers catch it before play and push the dont side back saying no bet even when my partner and i denied knowing each other

EDIT: that was at player banker in baccarat not craps actually

Are all of you sure that you'd come under such scrutiny, especially at a full crap table? I've always treated my match play like a regular bet but this opens up a few possibilities:j most of which involve craps.

1) Offset the line bet with a partner and take a chance by placing/laying odds.

2) Offsetting bets with $5 or $10 bucks a pop on the twelve, hoping it will hit.

3) Free Iron Cross, all the hardways, etc. etc....any high vig bet that you can get for free. Pick your poison.

Still, would the dealers pick on it right away on a crowed table, or even care?

Some couples keep separate accounts just for the mailers. They use the match play coupons as an opening gambit. Its a dinner a few drinks and some music at the very minimum. If the match play works out, they get to extend the night a bit more.

In many local casinos its not necessary to adopt any subterfuge: the dealers know what is going on and the couples don't even go to opposite ends of the table. The casinos know its a marketing gimmick and its worked: its drawn them into the casino. After that its the luck that all players face.

It becomes like putting a twenty into a slot machine: sometimes it lasts sometimes it evaporates. The free play is a loss leader and the crew doesn't much care.

Oh, I know just what you mean.

My local Seminole rip off joint offered a fifty dollar match play coupon, so if it won at Baccarat it would be as if I had bet 100.00. Unfortunately there were so many hoops and delays in turning that coupon into a bet that by the time they got thru with the left thumbprint and all, that I was so pissed off I didn't mind too much when the bet lost.

Others brought in those coupons not quite understanding how to use them, and I explained to one guy about the delays and it gave him a face-saving out since he really had no intention of ever betting fifty dollars of his own money on one bet and I think everyone at the table knew it.

I didn't have anyone for shared coupons and with all those hoops and all that delay, I'm kind of glad I didn't subject anyone else to it.

The last time I used free play (at the GN on Freemont Street) I just went to the cage, showed my card, and got a few funky chips that could only be used in their casino. No fuss, no muss.

Go to any craps table and bet, $100+matchplay on pass line, $150 on the don't pass line, and $5 on the twelve crap.
